Simon

"How cute!" says a delicate girl's voice.

"What are you doing?! Don't touch him, he may be dead!" A more mature voice reaches my ears.

"Is he dead?"

With heaviness, I half-open my eyes.

"No, look, he's waking up!" a hand touches my head "can we take him home?"

Hold on, what did she just say?
I try to stand up, but my body doesn't respond. I'm feeling so strange...

"You know your dad doesn't like dogs."

That made me angry.
Who does that woman think she is to call me like that?

Trembling, I get... in four? and face the rude female "hey, what's your fucking problem?"

"Let's go honey" she sees me wary and walks away with her little girl next to her.

Wait, what the— why do I see so... weird?
I gasp as I look around.
WHY IS EVERYTHING SO FUCKING BIG?

I glanced at the ground and find some white furry dog paws "a-are they mine?"

I don't understand anything, absolutely nothing. I must have been dreaming... yes, I'm sure I'm just dreaming.
I go to a shop window and the faint reflection I saw puzzles me: a dog, schnauzer race, was staring directly at me.

"Is... is it me? Am I a— a dog?"

I've never had a dream so vivid as now, and to be frank, I'm a little scared. In any case, I must wake up now and get ready for BGT.

I use various methods, like closing my eyes for a while, screaming and stuff, and when I see all of them fail, I start to suspect that... this was reality.

And I lost my composure "no, no, no, this isn't happening, it's ridiculously impossible... just— how and when?!" I search through my last memories, but nothing helped.

With exasperity, I try to localize where I was, and I'm glad to know that I wasn't far from where BGT would be.

"I need help."

So I run, I run the best I can, trying to get used to this four-paws thing fast.

David

"That's it, handsome, do you want me to comb your hair too or...?" My makeup artist, Jess, gives me one last brushstroke.

"Thank you dear, I'll do it" I smirk and she leaves. I wet my hair a little, put some gel in my hand and start the combing routine.

While I was doing it, flashbacks from the night before come to mind, particularly that time in which Simon makes fun of my divorce.

It was true that in the meantime I felt bad, partly betrayed, because the man knew it was tough for me. But after taking my time to rethink things, I realized that it had been just a joke, words.

I don't think Simon meant that to hurt.
Just like me with the nasty joke before.

Last night he called me, but oddly, when I picked up, he didn't say anything. After a minute's silence, I was forced to hang up and call him again, but there was no response.

The monster of curiosity nearly kept me awake, and now, I didn't want something as strong as asking him what he wanted yesterday.

"David, do you know if Simon has arrived yet?" Amanda comes to talk to me "I need to show him a pin that I found"

"No, but you know what he's like. He'll probably be late."

Amanda agreed and we started a new conversation, which was later joined by Stephen, Alesha, Ant and Dec.

I really liked belonging to BGT.
Because besides being a fun job, this program did more than give me money and fame (something that doesn't even matter)...
It gave me a family.

Half an hour, an hour went by and the boss was conspicuous by his absence.

Unexpectedly, a dog rushes through the entrance to the common room. Such was his speed that he couldn't stop well and hits the feet of a sofa.

A security guard enters the scene, sweat all over his face "that dog is someone's?"

Everyone denies and the little dog starts barking at us.

"He broke security?"
Stephen scratches his nose, wanting to laugh.

"We asked for Simon and better came a dog."

The dog didn't stop barking.
Dec gets up to his height and tries to pet him, but the dog doesn't leave him and goes to the chairs with the names engraved. He climbs Simon's chair and barks again, even louder.

"How lovely! What if the dog replaces Simon?" says Amanda.

Alesha laughs "The dog is less intimidating, that's for sure".

"I say yes!" I raise one of my hands.

"Mr. Cowell hasn't arrived?" one of the producers appears "it's too late, at this rate we won't cover all the auditions" takes a look at us and sighs "we'll have to start without him".

I frowned "BGT without Simon Cowell? it's like a... it's like a pizza without cheese!"

"Like Ant without Dec" adds the blonde.

"Like BGT without camp David" helps Alesha.

"Like—"

"All right, all right, I get it! But there's no choice but that. It's the last day, we must end well... Let's go"

No one dared to say anything and we headed for the exit. The schnauzer dog weeps and begins to follow us.

"What do we do with him?" the guard looked annoyed.

"Get him out"

The man nodded and took the dog in his arms, battling a little, as the poor animal kept moving, trying to escape.
I pursed my lips for that and, without further ado I say.

"Wait, how about you leave him in my dressing room? He won't disturb anyone there."

"Oh... sure."

Bert needed a friend anyway.
