Chapter 8

The next morning, I woke up to the smell of bacon. I opened my eyes and looked at my alarm clock and noticed it was six in the morning. Even though I didn't have to be up until seven, I decided to get up. I walked down to the kitchen and saw Jake cooking breakfast. I cleared my throat to announce my presence.

He turned around and smiled at me. "Morning!" he said cheerfully.

"Um, morning?" I said confused.

"Sit down, breakfast is almost done."

I slowly walked over to the table and sat in a chair. "What's this all about?"

He shrugged. "Decided since I woke up so early, might as well do something useful."

"I'm surprised you're still here."

"Told you I would be." he said, placing a plate full of eggs and bacon in front of me. He made a plate for himself and sat down beside me. "So, are you sure you want to go to school today?" he asked.

I sighed and started to pick at my food. "Got to go back sometime."

We ate in silence, having really nothing to talk about. When I was done eating, I looked at my phone and saw it was six forty-five, plenty time to take a shower and get dressed. "You should probably go home and get ready for school Jake." I said, while getting up.

He sighed and put the plates in the sink. "Guess you're right, I'll be back to take you to school."

"You don't have to."

He turned and smiled at me. "But I want to." He walked over and gave me a hug. I reluctantly hugged him back.

"What, friends can't hug?" he asked.

I rolled my eyes. "Just go home and get ready."

He laughed. "See you in twenty minutes."

When he left, I quickly ran upstairs and jumped in the shower. After my shower, I put on a pair of faded jeans and a baggy blue sweatshirt with another schools logo. I quickly ran a brush through my hair and let it air dry. I grabbed my black converse and put them on. I grabbed my backpack and ran outside, where a patiently waiting Jake was. I quickly got in the car.

I quickly surveyed his outfit once I got in the car, smiling at how good he looked. He was wearing a blue and white plaid button down shirt, with a pair of dark wash jeans.

"Ready for school?" he asked.

I sighed. "As ready as I can be."

He smiled and started to drive.

My first three classes passed by slowly. I found out that I have a lot of catching up to do, since I missed almost a whole week of school.

When it was finally lunch time, I breathed a sigh of relief. I walked in the lunchroom and sat at my usualy table, with Liz and Max.

"You came just in time." Liz said.

I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion. "Came just in time for what?"

Max rolled his eyes. "Jake is going to break up with Nicole; Liz thinks she's going to have a breakdown."

"She is." Liz interjected.
