"Is the baby okay? Are you okay?" Alex asked, hurriedly.
"The baby's fine, but my leg isn't," Norma replied, her voice cracking at the end.
"We're gonna get help, okay? Just- wait." Alex said, feeling awful for not paying more attention to his surroundings.
Alex grabbed his phone and called an ambulance which was there in a matter of minutes. A fire truck was there as well, having to cut Norma's leg free from the car door.
-
"I'm fine," Norma said, for the millionth time.
"Your leg is broken, Norma," Alex said, back.
Norma rolled her eyes as she looked at the cast. She then looked her husband in the eyes as he held his hand out to her. She grabbed it and slowly got out of the car that the police station gave to Alex.
Norma grabbed her crutches and walked away from the car as Alex shut the door. Dylan and Norma were walking in front of their mother talking about the situation. Alex caught up with Norma and helped her up the stairs, slowly.
"Can you believe Dylan fell from climbing a tree?" Norma asked, still in shock.
Alex chuckled, "I think he was trying to impress Emma."
"Probably," Norma giggled.
-
Norma sat in the hospital bed, this time with excitement. She didn't care about her aching, broken leg, she wanted to know the gender of her baby.
"Hi, Mrs. and Mr. Romero," The doctor greeted
"Hi, Doctor Lynn," Norma greeted back with a smile.
"The gel I'm about to put on your stomach is going to be very cold, so be prepared." The doctor laughed.
Norma nodded and waited before she felt the freezing gel on her growing stomach.
The doctor then put the monitor on Norma's stomach and moved it around. When he spotted the baby, he stopped and smiled.
"Well, you guys are having a little girl." Doctor Lynn stated.
Norma's eyes welled up with tears as she squeezed her husband's hand. Alex was ecstatic; now completely engrossed in the screen that showed their baby girl.
"The next appointment will be on the sixth of May," Doctor Lynn stated.
Norma nodded and wiped the tears that had fallen from her eyes.
Doctor Lynn wiped the gel off of Norma's stomach and smiled, "I'll go get some pictures printed out for you two and then you are free to leave.".
"Thank you," Norma said, the doctor nodded and left.
"We're having a girl! I get two Norma's!" Alex said, excited to have a girl that would look like his wife.
"She better not look exactly like me. I want her to look like you more." Norma laughed, looking her amazing husband in his brown eyes.
"No. She has to look like you. You look a million times better than I do." Alex chuckled.
Norma smiled; she felt like she was in heaven.
-
Five months passed and Norma had finally given birth to her beautiful baby girl. Alex had been by her side the entire time and had teared up when he finally heard the cry of a baby.
As Norma rested, Alex cradled the baby in his arms, whispering sweet things to the baby. Their baby didn't have a name yet due to Norma wanting to change it, and Alex had no problem with it.
"Leah," Norma said, watching her husband lovingly.
"Huh?" Alex asked, looking up from his daughter to look at his wife.
"That's her name," Norma stated
"I like that name," Alex whispered, looking at his daughter.
"What should her middle name be?" Norma asked, watching as Alex walked over to Norma and sitting next to her.
"Anne?" Alex asked
"Leah Anne Romero? I like it," Norma giggled
"My little Leah," Alex whispered.
-
After a couple of weeks had passed, and everyone had met the baby, the world started to get better for Norma. There wasn't any trouble for her or her family. Alex had gotten a raise, their daughter was oddly calm and never threw a fit unless it was absolutely needed.
-
Norma and Alex laid in bed; Norma's head on Alex's chest like every night and his arms around her body, holding her close to him like every night.
"I got lucky," Norma whispered
"How so?" Alex asked
"I made it out of a crazy childhood and was given two boys who are absolutely perfect. I then met the man of my dreams and now have a perfect daughter. I just can't believe I'm this lucky." Norma explained, trying to get closer to Alex if that was even possible.
"I think I got lucky. I was alone before I met you and the boys and now look at me. I have the most beautiful wife in the world and the best kids in the world. I could care less if the boys aren't my own, they're my family now and that means they're my kids. I love all of them equally," Alex said, smiling to the thought of his family.
"You're so perfect. I couldn't have gotten any luckier." Norma whispered, kissing her husbands cheek.
Alex leaned down and kissed Norma's head down to her nose and then lips. She was his drug and he was hers. They were meant for each other and they would last forever.
When Norma had moved to White Pine Bay, she wanted to change her life even if she wasn't one-hundred percent sure but when she met Alex; she knew that this 'new' life wouldn't be so bad, and she was right.
When Alex had met Norma the first day she moved in, his heart had stopped. He knew she would be his even if it took forever to get her, and as soon as they started getting closer and married; he was the happiest man alive. Nobody was like Norma and he wouldn't ever take it for granted.
They loved each other and the change that they had caused on each other's lives.
