A/N I have decided to be really nice and update before getting the number of votes I asked for, so be grateful.

As I regained consciousness, the first thing I noticed was that I had a small, sharp pain in one arm. The second thing I noticed was that I was in a bed - not one of the hammocks, but an actual bed with a mattress and pillow.

It was dark wherever I was, with the occasional creak of timber telling me that I was on a ship. Was it the Dauntless? Had we actually made it out alive with Will?

I was just about to get out of the bed when a voice from the shadows said, "Rest Clove. You have had a very trying night." I jumped back in alarm at first, but then realised it was Jack. This was the perfect time to get all the answers I needed.

"How long have I been out? Where's Will? What happened to Barbossa? Where am I?" It all came out in a rush and I wondered if he had caught all of it.

"A couple of hours, he's safe, he's dead, the Dauntless," he replied, equally as fast, chuckling at my confused frown.

"Who died and who's alive?"

Jack lit a candle on the far side of the room and walked over to the small bed. Now I could see more clearly, not that the candle was a great light source. The first thing I noticed was the strip of cloth wrapped around my upper arm.

The bed that I was in wasn't anything special, with only thin hessian sheets that were starting to itch. The pillow was made out of the same material. The room wasn't too big either, containing only the bed, a short bedside table and a chair in the corner of the room. The now lit candle was in a lantern next to the door. There were no windows, giving it a slightly cramped feeling.

Jack pulled the chair up next to my bed and sat down. "Will's safe. Barbossa died."

My head was suddenly filled of images of the evil captain being slowly tortured, screams echoing around - around where-ever he was.

"We managed to lift the curse eventually."

Another picture entered my head, this one of Jack standing in the cave, the moonlight shining down onto his skeletal form. I shuddered, hoping that he was mortal again. "What about you, Jack? You still...human?"

He shook his head sadly and my breath caught in my throat. Why I was so worried about his undeadness, I wasn't sure, but part of me wanted to make sure he was OK.

"You - you mean the curse in on you now?"

"Yes," he said gravely and then smirked. "Clove, you are really gullible. That's not a good thing." He reached over and ruffled my hair.

I jerked back quickly, scowling. "You mean you were joking?"

"I guess you could say that."

"So the curse is gone completely?" I asked, smoothing my hair down.

"Yes." A slightly sad look crossed his face. "Along with the Black Pearl."

"What do you mean 'along with the Black Pearl?'" I said imitating him as best I could.

"Well, Miss Swann decided she didn't want to be on the Dauntless - that she wanted to 'elp us in the cave. So the escapes from here, rows over to the Pearl, frees the crew an' tries but fails to get 'em to help get Will back. She goes to the Isle de Muerta alone and fights Barbossa's crew along with the rest of us. Then once it's all over we row back to the Dauntless 'cause Elizabeth wants Will safe and I have no choice but to go with them and bring you."

"You make that sound like a bad thing, bringing me."

"It's not that. I just had to go with the other two to get you back 'ere."

He wanted me safe back here? But weren't pirates supposed to be ruthless and not caring if anyone other than themselves got hurt? "You wanted me safe," I said, my accidentally letting a bit of disbelief into my voice.

It wasn't a question but he nodded anyway. "Not that I wouldn't have done that for anyone else," he added quickly.

"Whatever you say, Captain Sparrow." I couldn't help but smirk a bit at this.

"Well, now we are on our way back to Port Royal."

I wrapped my arms around my legs and sat up straight. "But where will you go then?"

He looked grim as he sounded when he said, "The gallows, Clove. The only place for the likes of me."

"But you helped save Elizabeth!" I protested. "Without you, she would probably be dead by now. And so would I. Either that, or on some other mission to save her with Will."

He sighed heavily and closed his eyes. "There's no use in trying to save me Clove. I'm a pirate and that is enough to kill anyone."

"So you've already given up?" I asked.

"Well, I have no way out of it anyway. Might as well let them kill me," he said, his voice turning bitter. After that there was silence. We just sat there, trying to think up ways to save Jack. Well I was at least, whereas he stared blankly ahead at nothing.

The occasional voice from sailors outside could be heard and another thought occurred to me. "If your sentenced to death, wouldn't someone be guarding you?"

"Of course. The solders that are are currently waiting for me out there." He looked up so our gazes met. His brown eyes looked sad, really sad. "I'd better not keep them any longer."

"OK. I'll go too."

I was about to stand up but he quickly stopped me. "You'll have to stay here for now, love. You lost a lot of blood back there. Wouldn't want anything else happen to you now, would we?" With that, he quickly stood and left, blowing out the candle as he did.

"I can handle blood loss fine," I mumbled to myself and stood up, quickly sitting back down again when a sudden wave of dizziness swept over me. "OK, maybe not."

I needed to find a way to get Jack out of his share of the gallows but it wouldn't be easy. I needed to talk to Will and Elizabeth.

A/N Yup, it's short. But I wanted to update as soon as possible. I decided November was a bit too late. Hope you enjoyed it! I think it may have been one of my best chapters so far! What do you think?
