After convincing Jack to hide in a tree with me, so we would be safe from other tributes, I explained my story to him. His face showed no emotion the whole time. Well, apart from confusion, but that was to be expected.
He looks cute when he's confused... I shook my head. No! Bad Clove!
After the long silence that followed I looked at me, as if waiting for me to do something.
"What?" I asked, feeling as confused as he looked a minuet ago.
"Well, seeing as we're in a forest full of deathtraps and twenty three other people who want to kill us-"
"Twenty four," I interrupted. "There will be two of me, unless we arrived after I 'died.'"
"Yes, well, we need to find out whats happening then, an' then love, I'll make sure we survive this," he said, patting me on the back. As much as I liked the warmth it made me feel, I was still annoyed.
"I think your forgetting something." I jumped back to the ground and stood with my hands on my hips. "I don't need you to survive this. I have trained for these games my whole life, I know how I died before, and, if anything, I think it'll be you who needs the protecting."
I started walking away, and heard him follow me down from the tree. I ignored him and kept a steady pace. It would only be a matter of time before the game makers realised there was something not right, what with the two Cloves, and the man who looked far to old to be here. I glanced behind me, and saw Jack looking around him, like something would jump out at us any second, which it might.
"Listen darlin', to make sure we both survive this, we're gonna have to cooperate. No stormin' off in a huff, got it?"
"Fine," I answered, trying to sound as sincere as possible. I stopped and waited until he was walking beside me. " We're going to have to start collecting supplies first. Unfortunately, I don't really know much about that..."
"Don't worry, your not the only one."
I stopped walking and turned around. "Don't worry? Seeing as neither of us know how to get supplies, that is one of our main reasons to worry! And seeing as two mysterious people just appeared in the arena, don't you think-"
I was interrupded by a loud voice booming over the arena. I couldn't quite make out the words, but it sounded like a countdown. I froze in my tracks, and faced my pirate friend. "I think I know when we are, and I think I know how to get some supplies."
"Well, that's great! Then we can - Wait!"
I broke into a sprint in the direction I hoped the Cornucopia would be. If my plan went as I wanted, we could slip into the bloodbath unnoticed, while the wild mess of tributes killing each other disguised us. Hopefully I woudldn't run into my past self.
As we ran, I explained this to Jack. "The weapons and other things will be in the big mouth, got it?" He nodded. "Try to stay away from everyone else, but hide from the other tributes."
"Good thinking, Clove, but how are you planning on doing this with a skirt?" He smirked at me and I glared.
"I am not taking this off you perv. Not until I find a dead tribute, that is." He was about to say something, but I cut him off. "And while I get changed, you will be looking the other way, with a blindfold on, got it?"
"Yes sir! Uh... Miss!" I nodded in approval and ran through the forest.
Twigs and branches tried to slap my face, and roots and bushes were constantly tripping me and getting caught in my skirt, so it took longer than I had anticipated to reach the clearing where the Cornucopia lay. The ring of tributes was spread out around it, and even though the gaps between the metal plates on which they stood were large, I knew it would be hard to make it there in time.
