Max let out the breath he was holding and sunk lower in his seat. "Goddess, that was stressful," he said, and I could tell that he moved a hand across his face. He was exhausted, I could tell, and I had a feeling that he was nervous about the conversation Sam would have with his father.
"That boy should not be an Alpha," I mumbled, loud enough for only the two Werewolves to hear, "especially, an Alpha chosen."
Thunk! the sound of a book dropping made Max, and I jump with Fate coming towards us from somewhere nearby.
"What did you say?" Peter asked, staring at me in shock. "Did you just say Alpha?"
I stared at him blankly. "Yes, Peter," I replied. "I know about Werewolves."
"What? How?" His heart thundered in his chest, and I could tell that he was scared, especially with the Beta sitting in front of him. "I didn't tell her anything. I swear. I-"
"I know," Max said tiredly, interrupting him. "Is there a way that we can make it so that no one knows what we are talking about since someone decided to open their big mouth?" He gave me a pointed look.
"I am still blind. I can't see your look," I replied. I looked in Fate's direction. "I trust him."
Fate grumbled before mumbling something. Magic filled the air around us before the spell was completed, and she sat down in a chair next to Peter. "You shouldn't be telling people that you know about the Supernaturals," she warned. "How many know?"
"Four," I replied, interrupting Peter. I gave him a pointed look, and he shut his mouth before turning my unseeing gaze to Fate. "Vallum, Valen, Max, and now, Peter."
"Four is too many, especially because of two of them being so young," Fate said, bitterly. She scowled, and I had a feeling that she narrowed her eyes at me. "Th-"
"Would you stop?" I asked, interrupting her, and she snickered, relaxing her gaze. I scowled, not knowing why she wanted to tease them. "My Goddess, no wonder they call you a 'crazy old bat.'"
"They called me a 'crazy old bat' as a joke, Carley," Fate said teasingly. She shifted in her seat, and I had a feeling that she was trying to get comfortable. "They didn't mean it, especially since I am a Witch."
"Y-y-you're a Witch?" Peter stuttered. His heart thundered in his chest, and I had a feeling if it could jump out, it would. He was afraid; all of us knew that he was, and I had a feeling that he wanted to move away from her but didn't want to seem rude.
"Yes, I am a Witch," Fate said, and I knew that she was doing her "creepy" smile that made them yell at her. "Wh-"
"Fate, would you stop scaring the poor boy?" I asked, interrupting her. I scowled when I felt her sending an "annoyed" look my way. "We don't need him to pee his pants."
"Aww, but it is fun," Fate said, chuckling. She shifted away from him, and Peter relaxed and let out a small whoosh that caused Fate to laugh out loud. "Don't worry, Young One," she teased, and Max chuckled. "I can't do anything to you, not unless I want something sticking out of my chest."
"Fate," I seethed, and she laughed louder. I rolled my eyes, and a smile played on the edge of my lips, amused. I pointed my fork at her. "One of these days, they will let me stick you with that metal piece."
Fate snickered, and I could tell that she shook her head. "No, they won't," she said. "Besides, it's created from magic and can be destroyed with magic. I wouldn't suggest it, Carley."
"Wait... what?" Peter asked, confused. "Do you know what they are talking about?" His heartbeat grew faster, and I could tell that he was afraid of what Max would do. "Uh, uh, I meant to add Beta to the end of that... I-I'm sorry, Beta." His voice grew softer and softer, and I could tell that he was shrinking lower and lower into his seat while he waited for Max to say something.
"Don't worry about it," Max said, brushing him off. He sighed, and I had a feeling he moved a hand through his hair. "Max is just fine, Peter, or no title at all. I don't like my title being used in casual conversation, anyway." He shrugged.
"I-if you don't mind me asking, why do you have the sudden mood change?" Peter asked. "I-I-" He cut himself off, and I had a feeling that it was because Max did something. His heart pounded in his chest, and the smell of fear became stronger.
"It isn't a sudden mood change, Peter," he mused. "It's just because I was... scared that I didn't act the way I wanted to act." He sighed and shrugged a shoulder, and I had a feeling he grimaced.
"Are... you scared now?" Peter asked. His voice was soft, and I could tell that he was watching Max. He respected Max, I could tell, and I had a feeling it was because Max opened up to him. "I-If you d-" He stopped talking, and again, I had a feeling that it was because Max stopped him.
"Petrified," Max said with a breathless chuckle. He cleared his throat, and he licked his lips. "I am terrified about what is going to come because I had "disobeyed" orders." He grunted and stopped me from talking. "However, it was worth it."
"Then why did you do it?" Peter asked. "B- uh, Max? Why did you "disobey" orders."
"Because," Max said, shrugging. He shifted in his seat and sighed, and I had a feeling that he was studying Peter because he also shifted in his seat nervously and cleared his throat. "If it wasn't me, then who?" He cleared his throat. "The order to not hang out with you, because you are gay, is stupid. So, answer me this, Peter," he paused, "if it wasn't me, then who? If it wasn't now, then when?"
And Peter replied with soft, "I don't know."
