Annabeth's POV

I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock playing American Idiot by Green Day. I jumped at the loud noise and in the process fell onto the floor flat on my face. "Owww!" I groaned as I rubbed my face. The pain slowly fading away into a dull pinch. I silently cursed myself for choosing that song as my alarm last night. At the time I had thought, "Hey why not its a good upbeat song!". I sighed and pushed myself onto my feet and smacked my alarm off. I headed to my bathroom. I looked at my sleep worn eyes and red face. "My Gods do I always look like this?" I thought. I brushed it off and headed back to my room to get dressed.

Today is my first day at East Side Middle School. A couple weeks ago my family and I had moved to New York all the way from California. Crazy right? That's what I thought and believe you me I made sure that my parents knew how I felt about the move. It's all just a bit nerve wracking to be starting over at a new school in the sixth grade, but hey I guess life doesn't always go how we want it to. (A/N: Wiser words could not be spoken XD). What am I saying. Life never seems to go the way we want it to.

I look around at my neat and organized room with gray wallpaper and beige carpeting. "Well at least my room isn't so bad." I thought. I head over to my dresser and grab some blue jeans and a simple orange t-shirt. Once I'm dressed I try and tame my curly blonde hair, which is full of knots, but I give up along the way and just put it up in a ponytail. Then I head downstairs and grab an apple and say goodbye to my parents, Athena and Frederick Chase. I head outside and walk to the school bus stop.

Along the way, I was admiring all of the buildings and houses. Some were dull and boring looking while others were so captivating that I couldn't help but stare. I hope one day I could build houses like these and maybe even better ones I thought hopefully to myself. Being an architect has been my dream for as long as I can remember. I was always that kid in preschool building houses and structures out of the Legos while all the other kids mostly built spaceships and cars.(A/N: Ngl that was me as a kid, I always built houses.) I guess that's where I differ from others. I want to build something that stays, something permanent, while others want something to take them away from their life. But hey don't get me wrong I like to be adventurous and try new things, but I like something stable to come back to.

By the time I got to the bus, it was already loaded and about to leave . I quickly hopped on and headed to the back of the bus and sat down. When the bus left from the bus stop it hardly got a block away when I heard someone scream from outside "Wait don't leave without me!!!" I guess the bus driver heard or saw the kid from his mirrors because he stopped the bus. After I heard the doors open in walks this somewhat scrawny boy with black windswept hair that was sticking up in a lot of different directions. After a moment I look back out the window. I hear his footsteps continually get closer until they stop.

"Is this seat taken?" He asked in a hopeful tone.

"No," I say flatly in reply. Not really bothering to look him in the eyes.

"Mind if I sit?" He asked

"It's a free country," I say. He laughs a little and sits down and it's only then do I look over at him and see that he has a gorgeous pair of sea green eyes unlike any I have ever seen before. I kind of feel mesmerized for a moment, but I get myself to turn away and I stare out the window. It's only a few minutes when I hear snoring and it's coming from the boy sitting right next to me, "unbelievable", is the only word that seems to cross my mind. His head is tilted back and I see drool starting to come down from his mouth, gross! I sit in silence and he sits sleeping for the rest of the ride to school.

The boy next to me is jolted awake when the bus comes to a stop when we finally reach school. His eyes fly open and he groggily takes in his surroundings. I get up and pass by him and say "You drool in your sleep" and then head down the isle of the bus while he sits there in a daze of confusion.

I head to the office and figure out what classroom I'm in (In this school one teacher teaches all classes for each grade) and my locker number/combo and then head in the direction of the classroom. When I get there all the other 6th graders are there and only one desk is open in the middle of the desk square arrangement. A desk that is directly next to the drooling boy who sat next to me on the bus. I sit down and the boy turns his head towards me and offers me a genuine kind smile. I couldn't help but return the gesture. I gave him a small smile. Then our teacher strolled in and I turned my attention to him.

"Hello class my name is Chiron and I will be your teacher for this year! Please help me to help you by you guys being polite and respectful students by which I will try my best not to be boring." He offered with a kind wholehearted smile that seemed to reach his eyes and glow.

The rest of class went by quick and soon it was recess time. I went and grabbed a book from a shelf in the classroom and headed outside. I sat down on a nearby bench and began to read Peter Johnson and the Olympians. I only got like two sentences through when someone came up to me and cleared their throat. I looked up while instinctively glaring at whoever it was and I realized that it was the drooling boy from earlier and I softened my glare.

"Can I help you?" I asked. A somewhat small annoyed smile on my face.

"Yeah, um, well yes. You see this is my first day at this school and I don't know anyone and I was hoping that I could maybe get to know you." He said with a shy smile.

"Well  I don't know, you see I'm somewhat of a busy person what with my reading and all so I will have to check my calendar and get back to you." I replied with a slight smile on my face.

I guess he didn't see the smile though and thought I was being serious because he had a sad expression on his face and he turned to leave. He was a few steps away when I stood up and set my book down.

"Wait!" I yelled out and he stopped and turned towards me again.

"Did you think that I was actually being serious?" I asked

"I mean yeah." he said with a slightly awkward smile.

"Your such a Seaweed Brain." I said.

"What?" He asked looking confused.

"It's because of your eyes and the fact that you don't seem very smart." I stated bluntly.

"Oh, that makes sense...oh wait hey I can be smart sometimes! We can't all be such a Wise Girl like you." he said

"Wise Girl huh, that's very clever of you Seaweed Brain." I rolled my eyes and laughed.

"Why thank you." He said, mocking gratitude, and then did a small bow in front of me.

"So what's your real name Wise Girl?"

"I will only tell you if you tell me yours first Seaweed Brain" I said with a smile.

"Alright fine. " He said exasperatedly and rolled his eyes. "Percy Jackson." he said and held out his hand to me with a trouble makers grin.

"Annabeth. Annabeth Chase" I said and shook his hand and in that moment I had a feeling that this boy who, was shorter than me by like an inch and had a trouble makers smile, was going to change my life forever.
