Annabeth's POV

There are two people I hated at Goode High. Drew Tanaka and Nancy Bobofit. My Gods could those girls get any bitchier than they already were?! This morning in the hall I saw them picking on a pretty African American girl with light brown skin and beautiful cinnamon brown hair. They were only a few lockers away from Percy and I. They seemed to be making fun of her for something. I think something about a southern accent? I moved a bit closer to try and hear better.

"What's with the southern accent cow girl?" Drew said mockingly. The girl didn't reply and continued to rummage through her locker.

"Aw she can't speak! How sad!" Nancy chimed in with a matching mocking tone.

"Just leave me alone." The girl muttered quietly, seemingly in an annoyed tone.

"What, have better things to do? You don't even have friends!" Drew menacingly threw out.

The girl frowned and looked down at her shoes.

Finally, I had had enough. I started marching over there. Percy grabbed my hand to stop me but I shrugged him off. He was probably thinking I would do something that I would regret, which he might be right about, but in the moment I really didn't care. I reached the three girls.

"Drew, Nancy, how wonderful to see you two here!" I exclaim sarcastically.

"Chase." Drew grit her teeth and turned to look at me. "Don't you have a track to run or something?" She said with annoyance.

"Really? You know I never thought about that". I stated sarcastically with a fake smile on my face.

"Oh wait, oh yeah!" Last I checked I didn't have track practice at 8:30 in the morning." I said with an eye roll.

The girl they were teasing laughed and sent me a small smile. I gave a reassuring smile back to her.

"Well aren't we a know it all! Maybe that's why people don't like you." Drew exclaimed in a nasty tone.

I inwardly laughed to myself. That was probably the most iconic comeback in the book.

I thought I would have some fun with this. I pretended to look very sad and hung my head down glancing at my shoes.

"I'm..I'm...." I stuttered out in a mock scared tone while looking down at my feet a little. Drew and Nancy looked empowered. "Assholes" I thought. The girl looked confused.

I lifted my head up and put on my best glare and looked Drew directly in her pea brain eyes and spoke much more confidently than I just had in my mock fear voice.

"I'm sorry Drew, but I just can't quite remember? Am I supposed to care what you think of me? Because last I checked your opinion wasn't worth my time. Oh and please work on your comebacks, this is just getting sad." I exclaimed feeling proud.

Drew looked shocked and then she snarled while her eyes flashed with anger. I held my glare. She glanced behind me and smirked. I followed her gaze. Percy was standing a little ways behind us with a proud smile on his face. I smiled at him.

I looked back to Drew. Steam seemed to shoot out of her ears.

"Jackson can do so much better than you." She snarled.

I stood shocked. I knew she was just trying to get to me, but somehow it did kind of strike a chord in my heart. While I was still in my stupor another girl walked towards us. I think her name was Piper. She was a pretty native American girl with kaleidoscope eyes and brown hair with some feathers woven into it. She was dressed simply with black skinny jeans and a dark blue plaid shirt. Similar to how I was dressed actually. I wore blue skinny jeans and one of Percy's old black sweatshirts that fit me pretty well. My hair was down and I had on minimal makeup. Piper stood next to me. And glared down Drew and Nancy.

"You two seriously need to get a life! This is starting to get embarrassing guys!" She said loud enough for everyone in the hall to hear. I smirked at her comment and the girl with the southern accent had on a bright smile.

"Yeah well at least I don't dress like a boy!" Drew roared back at her.

Piper mocked hurt and placed a hand over her heart.

"Wow where did that come from? I was just trying to give you some advice and then you attack me with your words." She wiped a away a fake tear. "I just don't know how I'm ever going to get over this, you have literally just broken my heart." Piper mocked.

Drew and Nancy looked at her confused. I couldn't help but let out a laugh and Piper smiled over at me.

A moment later and they still looked confused, everyone in the hall still had eyes on us.

"Oh get off your high horses, if I let myself be bothered by anything the two of you dodo's had say than I would have started therapy years ago and the day I take anything you two have to say to heart will be the day I give permission for anyone at this school to have me institutionalized! She made sure that the rest of the hall could here her declaration.

Everyone burst out laughing at the face Drew made in reaction to Piper.

Drew huffed and began walking away with Nancy following in tow. The laughter had died down a bit but before Drew left the hall she turned towards us again and her eyes were mad with anger.

"Watch your back Mc'Clean!" Drew shouted angrily.

Piper just laughed.

"I wish I could but that's literally impossible. How about you just be nice? That would be so much easier!" She shouted back with a laugh in the back of her throat. Drew huffed again and left the hall.

I burst out laughing again and so did Piper and the Southern girl.

"That was the best thing I've ever seen!" The girl announced still trying to catch her breath.

"Me too!" I exclaimed, finally about over my laughing fit.

"Hazel Levesque" The girl said reaching out her hand towards me with a smile.

I smiled and shook it. "Annabeth Chase." I said. She reached out her hand to Piper.

"Piper Mc'clean." Piper announced with a bright smile.

"I owe you two." Hazel said to us.

"Don't worry about it." I said sincerely with a bright grin.

"Yeah those two are such assholes." Piper said.

I nodded in agreement. Just then the warning bell for our first class rang (Meaning it will start in ten minutes).

"Hey why don't we meet up for lunch? After what just happened we ought to stick together right?" Piper suggested with a laugh.

"Sounds great to me!" I say with a smile.

"Courtyard?" Hazel suggests. Me and Piper nod happily.

Percy then walks up to us and puts his arm around my shoulders.

"You guys were amazing!" He says with an awestruck smile.

"Yeah we were weren't we?" I say confidently with a bright smile.

"Guys this is Percy, my bestfriend." I explain. Percy smiles and waves at the girls.

They smile back at him.

"Alright well I guess we oughta get to class. I'll see you guys later!" Hazel said with a final wave and headed off. Piper saluted us with a smile and headed off too. Percy and I began our trek to our first class. His arm still wrapped around my shoulders and a goofy grin on his face.

The four of us would soon become great friends.
