Percy's POV

We started out at Goode High at the beginning of the school year. Now, as you know, I don't like school very much. What with being ADHD and dyslexic and all, it's just so difficult to focus. Annabeth has been helping me with studying, but I still have problems remembering everything for tests, especially in math. I swear math is just a modern torture device devised to make the lives of students more difficult. I mean come on when am I gonna need to know half the stuff they teach you in algebra in a real life situation. It's not like I'm gonna be an accountant or something. I'm not that delusional, I know that I would suck at it anyway.

For awhile, when we started at Goode it was just me and Annabeth hanging out together, which don't get me wrong, is awesome, but we both thought we should maybe try branching out a bit. Maybe try and find a group we could both be a part of. We were kind of busy though. Besides regular classes I was on the swim team and had practice everyday. Annabeth was taking some AP classes and was on the track team and also had practice almost everyday. We sometimes didn't even get to see each other all that much except for at lunch, but we still wanted to at least try and make some new friends. It is high school after all.

My mom even seemed to be branching out her friend group. She took a certain interest in my English teacher. I mean come on mom! My English teacher really?! He seemed to take a liking to her as well, to my horror. They had met because I had failed a couple of English tests and he wanted to talk to my parents. I sat out in the hall outside the classroom with Annabeth as they talked. After about only five minutes I couldn't sit still anymore and stood up and paced the hall back and forth. Annabeth just laughed a little at me as she pulled a notebook and pencil out of her backpack. Soon we heard laughing coming from the classroom. And not just any laughing but almost nervous laughing maybe? Like a laugh someone would use towards someone they like. And then it hit me. Were they flirting?! I stood still and glance over at Annabeth sitting on the bench. She seemed to be looking at the door with a look of slight confusion on her face.

Just then the door opened and they both stepped out. My teacher opening the door for her. She gave him a bright smile of gratitude and hint of something else I couldn't quite place as she walked out. Me and Annabeth both shared a look and she looked as confused as I was.

"Bye Paul." My mother told my teacher with a flirtatious smile. I felt like my eyes were gonna pop out of my head from how wide they were going from watching this interaction.

"Bye Sally." My teacher said back with a bright smile and an awestruck look in his eyes. I was starting to feel very uncomfortable in this situation. She hadn't even dated anyone since my dad left when I was a baby. I had never seen her like this before, ever.

After a moment of them just smiling at each other. I cleared my throat.

"Uhh humm. Well we better get going. Lots of homework to do." I said with a sarcastically cheery smile.

"Oh yes of course. Percy, Annabeth I'll see you two tomorrow and it was nice to meet you Sally." He replied with another cheery grin directed towards my mother.

"Likewise." My mother stated back to him with also a bright smile.

With that he headed back into his classroom and we started walking down the hall.

"So you two are on a first name basis now?" I questioned my mother.

My mom turned her head to look at me. Still having a small smile on her face.

"Just kind of happened. I introduced myself as Sally and he told me I could call him by his first name."

We just got through the front doors of the school and headed down the steps to the parking lot.

Annabeth moved so she was walking in the middle of my mom and I. She smirked and nudged my mothers shoulder playfully.

"So what was all the laughing and giggling about?" She questioned with the smirk on her face still evident.

"Oh that?" She smiled shyly.

We were pretty close to our car now and she pressed her key fob to unlock the car. Starting to walk faster and move to the front of us.

"He asked me to get a cup of coffee with him." She said happily. With her back still to us and she reached to grab the handle to the drivers side door of our car. I stopped dead in my tracks.

"He what?!" I exclaimed feeling shocked and probably looking it too.

"I know I couldn't believe it either." She said with a slight squeal. She turned to look back at me and saw my expression and stance.

"Oh Percy I'm sorry! If this bugs you I wont go." She blurted out just seeming to realize that this might be really awkward for me. I opened my mouth to speak, but before I could Annabeth was by my side with a hand on my back.

"It's okay Sally. Percy is okay with it, aren't you Percy?" She said with a convincing smile on her face.

"Uh well.." I uttered out. Annabeth dug her nails just the slightest bit into my back. Enough to make me squeal in pain.

"Ahh! Yeah, Yeah totally cool with it mom! I just want you to be happy." I tried to play off my pain as smoothly as possible and put on the most sincere smile I could muster. Annabeth un-dug her nails from my back and began to lightly rub the area she had just brutally attacked.

"Aw Percy your so sweet! Thank you. When did I get so lucky to have a son like you." She smiled and seemed really happy. She came over and hugged me. I wrapped my arms around her to hug her back in a tight embrace. Annabeth had moved closer to the car, but still had her eyes on me. I looked up still in the embrace with my mom to make eye contact with her.

"You're so dead!" I mouthed to her with a vengeful smile.

"Try me." She mouthed back with a glare which slowly turned into a smirk. I shook my head, lightly laughing to myself.

My mom broke our embrace and stepped back.

"Alright lets go home. I have some blue cookies to bake!" My mom exclaimed. Climbing into the car.

"Yes!" I yelled pumping my fist in the air.

Annabeth laughed at me and climbed into the back seat as I made my way around to the front seat.

And that is how my mom started dating Paul Blofis, my English teacher. This is gonna be one heck of a year.
