Red flags were shot up in my body.
The window in my living room was wide open. The tied red curtains were flowing due to the breeze. I swallowed hard and took a quick glance around the main rooms before giving Casey a warning look.
Quickly setting a smile on my face before my father could peek at my feared expression, I set his luggage on the couch. He was admiring my apartment with no words until he smiled. My apartment was very me. It was mostly neat with some nice color schemes between the furniture and curtains and even the few decorations I had. My bedroom was a bit more cluttered but was still nice. Posters, stickers, and shelves were scattered along my walls. An old wooden desk and dresser had books, writing utensils, and a few of my electronics along their surfaces. The mattress I slept on had three pillows covered in the same brown sheet while an off-white and burgundy designed blanket was sprawled over the white sheet.
In ways, my style here reflected the design of my room in Utah.
"I'm going to let you unpack while I get changed. Casey can help you if you need it," I started. He nodded. "For the full two weeks, you'll get my bed. No questions asked. Okay?"
Cutting him off before he could protest with my door, I held my breath. Somebody was in my apartment; and they were in the same enclosed room as me. I grabbed the hockey stick that laid on my floor while scanning my room. The corners were empty and from the looks of my opened closet, it was free of intruders too. My bathroom door was opened as well, but with the light flicked off, I had to check.
My heart was racing and when I was tapped on the shoulder, I whipped around.
The three-fingered green hand grabbed the end of the hockey stick with ease and smiled. I met Leonardo's blue eyes behind his mask and nearly threw horrible scolds at him. He pulled the thing from my hands while quietly chuckling.
"Not funny," I hissed through my teeth. "Why the hell are you in here?"
"What? A friend can't pull a little joke?"
I glared at him. "A joke where you make it seem like someone was going to murder me and my father? No!"
Leo chuckled again and turned around. I was met with his shell.
"I'm letting you get changed," he said.
I rose an eyebrow but pushed him a little more away from me and my dresser. I quickly grabbed a new pair of grey underwear, a pair of grey leggings, and a blue and purple short-sleeved flannel. Once I finished changing my clothes, I told him he could turn around.
"What are you here for?"
Leo took a seat on my bed and rested his padded elbows on his knees. He sighed. "Now that your dad is here, we're going to be more constant with the nightly check-ins."
Joining him on my bed, I crossed my legs over one another. "Okay, but how so?"
"Have your father sleep on the couch," he whispered. "It'll be easier for us to keep an eye on him. You can protect yourself better than you can him, so that's why Raph, Donnie, and Mikey are going to do shifts."
I nodded. "Alright, I guess you're right."
"Also; we think you should train with weapons. You're not very good at using them."
A stifled laugh escaped me. Admitting he was right made me think of my situation last night. Defending myself would have been a little difficult. I could barely use spatulas and pocket knives correctly. He laughed a little as well and I nodded.
