CHAPTER 1: A Long Way From Home.
Zizi scowled at her sister as she dragged her boxes up the stairs any kind of way.
Could have at least gently dragged them.
She sighed before hauling up the stairs, her last card board box. When she got to her room her sister was already leaving out. The tired girl plopped on her bed, releasing a sigh.
Today had been a long day for her due to moving all the way across the country. From Northern California to New Orleans.
She was physically and mentally exhausted. She just wanted to rest, but she promised herself she'd stop at the herbal shop and get sage. Her family was very spiritual and did not play when it came to keeping your aura clean and spiritual cleansing. Zizi didn't want to be a victim of her sister's, Fatima's wrath. She sighed before getting up and looking at herself in the mirror. She decided she looked fine in her tube top and pants. Shit, it 's hot outside anyways.
Grabbing her fanny pack, she clipped it around her waist, then she made her way downstairs. As she walked into the living room her sister Fatima was nowhere to be seen. Zizi shrugged her shoulders, deciding to text her instead. Zizi didn't wait to see a reply, she put her phone in her pocket and left out.
Shivering at the cold air, it was summer time in New Orleans but regardless of the fact; it was still night time. It was a little chilly. She walked off the porch and down three blocks over. The herbal shop was five blocks away from where her sister lived.
She came upon an intersection and forgot which way the herbal shop was. Damn. She didn't realize how creepy and dark it actually was outside till now. Shrugging her shoulders before turning left, Zizi walked down the road and hoped with everything in her that she didn't get lost. But then again if she did she'd just catch an Uber home.
She sighed as the herbal shop came into view. Her pace fastened as she was almost there. Huffing in victory, a goofy smirk rested on her face as she entered the shop.
Legbi lifted her head as she heard the bell to her shop ding meaning someone was entering the shop. Legbi sighed as she saw the dark skinned girl enter and felt her aura out. She observed the girl as the young girl looked around the shop. She was curvaceous and short. For some reason, she looked familiar to Legbi.
All nineteen years of her life had Legbi been raised in New Orleans, but Legbi didn't want to work in her family's shop after the vampires murdered her sister. She was always on edge, after all there was an active witch hunt going on in New Orleans, she wasn't a witch. She practiced Voodin, but the king of New Orleans would still kill her for practicing 'mAgiC'.
"Hey" Her eyes wondered around the shop, flittering to each corner, then back.
"What exactly are you looking for?" Legbi questioned in a friendly tone. Legbi was a short girl, just like Zizi. With chocolate skin and bright brown eyes. She looked innocent as if she couldn't hurt a fly. Her soft demeanor did put Zizi at ease.
"Uh, some sage. My sister wanted me to pick some up" she explained still looking around the shop. Legbi nodded before looking at ZiZi skeptically. The girl seemed familiar to her, Legbi could not put her finger on it. "And who is your sister?" She questioned raising a brow. This was a Voodin shop, after all.
"Her name is Fatima, well it's Zora but I call her Fatima. some may know her as Zora though. Althou—" she chucked, cutting herself off when she realized she was rambling.
Legbi eyes widened, "Zora Agbi?!" Legbi questioned with scrunched brows, ignoring her last statement about rambling . Zizi looked at her weirdly before nodding her head slowly. "Yeah...that's her?"
"Gods! I didn't know she had a sister, another Agbi! So you must know, right?" Legbi questioned. Zizi raised a questioning brow.
"Know what?" She asked scrunching her face up.
"About the vampires" Legbi said rolling her eyes. Zizi reciprocated the act as she held in her laugh. She infact did not know anything about the vampires. But she did know it was getting late and she needed to hurry home before Zora had an heart attack.
"Um... lady I need my sage?" She asked more than stated. This lady is obviously crazy.
"You have to know" Legbi said ignoring her. Her voice dragged out indicating that was a tone of stress. This caused Zizi to raise a questioning eyebrow. She let out a sigh as she felt her phone vibrate. She did not even know this woman's name, yet she was so adamant on knowing her sister and knowing about the....vampires?
"I don't get it Zora never told yo—"
Zizi pulled her phone out of her pocket and saw that Zora had texted her.
zora💕:Why didn't you come tell me! It's not safe to go outside at night.
Um maybe because you were busy, but hey I'm about to leave the sage shop because this woman is acting crazy
Zizi texted her back. "Okay um...?"
"Legbi" Legbi said.
"Okay Legbi well I'll get going, i'm just gonna go home" she said awkwardly while walking backwards.
"By yourself?!" She questioned incredulously. Zizi nodded. "Yup, Okay Bye!" She said waving goodbye, then turning around and running out like she was on fire. She sighed as she left the shop. She didn't even get to get her sage. But oh well, Zora would understand.
Walking back she couldn't help but to feel disappointed and tired. She knew she had to walk almost six blocks to get back home.
shortcut it is.
She turned and took an alleyway, which if she walked straight would lead to another alleyway. Zizi began to walk straight and into the next alley. Soon her surroundings became unfamiliar. She stopped and looked around, she shouldn't be taking shortcuts at night. She sighed shrugging her shoulders. Oh well.
Zizi heard footsteps in the distance but paid them no mind. She was only about three blocks away from home, or so she thought.
When she still heard the footsteps she stopped and turned around but she saw nothing. Strange, and scary. Zizi felt a strong breeze rush past her and she shivered before turning around. But when she did, she bumped into a wall. No, a hard chest.
Slowly Zizi looked up to meet brown eyes, ones she'd never forget.
ZIZI:
Authors discussion: imagine Zizi as an all natural queen, higlight ok. Maybe mascara. Also, y'all how do we like Zizi? This is just the first chapter but for some reason I fear y'all gonna call her dumb. And before y'all do, y'all gotta remember that she is a younger sister, then hoez always acting stupid.
