lydia's pov

Tenya's fingers tap along the edge of his keyboard. "Maybe we just get a bigger apartment for now?" he suggests.

I plop myself down on the couch next to him and lay my head on his lap. "That's probably best for now."

Gently, he runs a hand through my hair. "It's all gonna work out in time Star," he reassures me. He takes off his glasses and rubs his eyes. "I should really invest in contacts."

Shaking my head, I take the pair of glasses in his hands and place them back on his head. "I love your glasses though they make you so..." I pause hesitating to find the right words. "Complete. And cute. But if contacts are gonna be convenient for you don't let me stop you! I love you no matter what," I tell him with a smile. He giggles and kisses my forehead. "It's your birthday soon right, August twenty-second?"

"You remember?"

I giggle. "Of course I remember Tenya! I love you so much," I tell him. The fact that he blushed at my comment made my heart squeeze. I traced his cheek with my thumb, admiring the softness of his skin and the faded freckles that dotted the space. "Tenya?" I ask.

"Hmm?"

I look down and then back at him. "Is this working?" I say. He doesn't reply for a moment, so I carry on. "Like- are you comfortable with me like we used to be?"

His eyes met mine. "I think we need to stop focusing on what we used to be. Let's be honest with each other, its never going to be the same as it used to be. Not because we won't be as in love with each other as we were, because I can reassure you that I love you so so so much Lydia. It's just that our dynamic of being together is different. We're older and different and we've seen the best and worst in each other. We've learned to take things slower, too. And I think that's something really healthy and good that we've learned by being with each other. But to answer your questions yes, this is working."

"It's just not the same?"

"No. And that's not a bad thing. That's a good thing," he tells me.

I lay my head down on his lap and sigh. "I'm glad I have you."

We carry on through the night, giggling and watching tv and doing all the things we love to do together. As the next few weeks carry on, Tenya visits me and sometimes I visit him. We go on a date or two as well.

When I woke up on a Saturday morning, I felt off. I was sure it was just my period, considering I was late after all. Stumbling into the bathroom, the floor below me feeling like it was swaying, I immediately rushed to the toilet and threw up. I groaned at the feeling and wiped my mouth off with a wad of toilet paper. As I stared down at the contents floating in the bowl I flushed it down and hoped for some sort of explanation to the odd morning. My eyes go wide as it clicks for me. I get up off the linoleum floor and look for my phone, dialing a number I know will answer.

The phone only rings for a few moments, and then finally. "Hello?"

I sigh in relief. "Hey! Lucy. I have a favor to ask of you, if you don't mind," I say.

She mumbles, "Yeah what's up?" It's apparent that I most likely either woke her up or she just got up.

"Can you come over later? I need some help with something," I explain.

"Oh yeah. I'll see you as soon as possible. I just woke up so."

I nod, relieved she isn't busy today. "Thank you so much, I promise you it's a good reason."

She giggles, we say our goodbyes, and finally, we hang up. I set my phone back down on the nightstand and let out an exasperated sigh. I sunk down to the floor and chuckled dryly, already beating myself up for being reckless. On the other hand, I wasn't sure of anything, and therefore I should just wait until I know the truth. It could all be a false alarm after all.

Still, the thought would linger in my mind the entire day until Lucy showed up. She gave me a big wide hug when she walked through the door. "So what's the problem love?" she asks after putting her purse down on the floor.

I sigh. "I think I'm pregnant."

Her eyes go wide. "Are you sure? Have you taken a test?"

I shake my head as I begin to pace. "No, I haven't I wanted you to help me. But it could be a false alarm," I suggest.

"Well of course. But you need to take the test."

"I almost don't wanna know," I mumble.

She rubs her hand across my shoulder. "Sweetie it's so much better to know. It's no or yes. Cmon let's run to Walgreens and get a few tests okay?" she says. "Let's focus on the negative okay?"

I nod. "The negative."

After a few minutes of talking, we get on our way to the store. Lucy does her best to distract me, talking about all the other things going on in the world. She plays some of my favorite music and tells me stories. When we walk into the store Lucy and I part ways so I lead myself to the health aisle. All the way on the end, are pregnancy tests, all lined up next to each other in pink packaging. I grab hold of the first response one and stare down at it for a few minutes. I notice that there is a package with three tests instead of one and I grab that instead. Better safe than sorry.

Lucy is strolling down the makeup aisle when I find her again. "You got it?" She asks, and I only nod in reply.

So we pay and go home, Lucy still trying to keep my mind off of everything until we get home and I can take the test. Before I go to the restroom, Lucy puts her hand on my shoulder. "The negative, okay?"

I nod. "Yeah. The negative."

My breathing is shallow and my hands are shaking. I'm beyond nervous as I sit down on the toilet. I pee on all three of the sticks, set them aside, and then wait. Time feels slower than ever. Once all three of them have beeped, I debate picking it up and seeing the results. I can't bring myself to do it, so I pick them up, leave the bathroom and hand them to Lucy. "I can't look," I mumble. She takes the first one out of my hand, reads the result and sets in down. Then the second and third. "So?" I ask.

There's a hesitation to answer. "You're gonna be a mommy."
