What is sleep? Now that I live here, there is no such thing.

Tonight might've been one of the longest nights in my life. I couldn't sleep at all. I look at my watch to see it say 3:12 am. Every few minutes, I could hear creaks and steps coming from outside my room. Mom's been asleep since 10:00, so I know it's not her. "Crash" a noise appeared presumably from downstairs. I look around to find something I can use as defence and notice my old baseball bat. "Why do I still have this?" I say grasping onto the handle. "I haven't played since fourth grade." I open my room door and slowly head into the hall.

I walk towards mom's room, taking gentle steps, making sure I don't wake her. I open the door to take a little peek to see if she's awake, turns out, she's still sleeping. I tiptoed my way towards the stairs and slowly down them, hoping no one hears me. As I finally make my last step, I turn on the first floor light and notice a shattered vase on the ground. There was no one around though. I look to the floor and see some cat paw prints. "Mr. Snuggles, is that you?" I rolled my eyes. I follow the paw prints, and they lead to the strange white room. For some reason the looked like it was glowing and there seemed to be a very faint, glow-in-the-dark message that said, "DO NOT OPEN THIS DOOR AFTER MIDNIGHT OR BEFORE SUNRISE" I look to my watch, "It's WAY past twelve," I looked to see it say 3:18 am. "Why am I still awake?" Another crash sound appears, coming from behind the white door. "Oh, r-right," I stutter. I approached the door slowly, trying not to make any noise when suddenly I feel someone grab my shoulder and turn me around. I grab onto my bat tightly and give that person a light hit in the head (because I don't want to kill anyone).

"Ow, Lacey, what the hell," Mom yells holding her head, "It's three in the morning, why are you down here?"

"I...I heard a noise, so I came here to investigate." I explain,

"Ugh, you and your doubtful, detective brain. Always suspicious of everything,"

"Great word choice mum." I rolled my eyes, "Why are you downstairs, anyway?" Mom gives me a death stare. Did I do something wrong?

"First of all, my business is none of your concern, and second of all, I came down to get some water." She walks towards me with her half glass of water and dumps it straight to my face. "If you can't sleep, might as well stay awake?"

"Ugh, mom, why do you always have to be so mean."

"Don't blame me for anything, dear. After all, I'm not the one having delusional thoughts now am I?" She points out.

"I'm not delusional, I have proof," I grab mom's arm and take her to the broken vase.

"This doesn't prove anything. You have a bat in your hand. You could've just hit that down."

"Why would I do that?"

"I don't know. Perhaps you hated that vase for some strange reason."

"That's just stupid, look at the ground, there are cat pri...nts?" I look to the ground and see the cat prints gone.

"You were saying?"

"I-...I'm going back to sleep."

"Someone's got sleep deprivation."

"Grrr" I said slamming my door. I drop to my bed and fall fast asleep.
