Every day is like a new chapter of a story. Unfortunately, my chapter never ends.
I walk home with my head down, beside Henry. He looks at me from time to time, trying to figure out what's wrong. "So, do you wanna talk about it?" He asks,
"Not yet..." I answer. We reach my front steps, and I sit there looking down. Henry hunkered down beside me, waiting for me to talk. We sat there quietly for a while before saying anything.
"Ready to talk now?" Henry asks again,
"Yes..." I answer,
"I know how it feels, to have an overwhelming day, I mean. It's never easy. I overheard some of the kids talking about you. It's not as bad as it seems."
"What do you mean?" I let out a big sigh. "They were all staring and whispering to others. Only like three people actually talked to me."
"Well, turns out, none of them knew where you lived. Some of the kids were whispering over how pretty you were."
"What? That doesn't even make sense. Why didn't they walk up, and talk to me?"
"They were jealous of you. They think you're now going out with Ethan because you got his number. I legit eavesdropped and heard one of the kids thinking about asking you out tomorrow."
I sit there laughing my head off because I know that Henry's just trying to joke around to make me happy. I must say, it did work. "Haha, thanks for joking around, Henry."
"What do you mean? I'm serious!"
"Yeah right, haha," We laugh it off.
I look up to notice that it's almost sunset.
"Oh wow I better go inside," I say worrying about my mom yelling at me.
"Want to see something special?" Henry stands up stretching.
"It's getting late. I think I should-"
"Come on, it'll be quick. I promise!"
"Fine, let's go," I say. Henry grabs my arm and takes me up a hill. I watch as the sun slowly starts to set.
"Close your eyes."
"What?"
"Close your eyes, Lacey! I want this to be a surprise."
"Ok fine," I reply and close my eyes. Henry doesn't believe me so he covers my eyes. We walk a bit more and finally stop.
"Don't open your eyes until I say so," he says as he removes his hands from my face. I stand there quietly waiting to see what he's trying to show me.
"Ok, you can open your eyes now,"
"Henry, where did you take...me. Wow," I open my eyes to see a wonderful view. Henry had brought me up a cliff where the whole town could be seen. The sun shone all over town and reflected on every window. It was mesmerizing to look at. It was delightful enough that I forgot about my rough day.
"D-do you like it?"
"Henry, I love it. This is so beautiful!"
"Hehe, I'm glad you like it. I was hoping it would brighten your mood."
"It did, thanks, Henry,"
"No problem, hehe," We stand and watch the sunset on the horizon. After a while, we head down and back home. We both walk into my house for a drink, and we both get a pleasant welcome from my mother.
"Mind telling me where you were, missy?" Mom says unhappily,
"I was just with Hen-"
"Oh, I bet you were!" Mom interrupts me. She gives Henry a death stare, and I could hear Henry gulp, worryingly.
"Oh please, was it as bad as you not letting me into that room?" I point to the strange white door.
"Tell that to your sister, oh wait, you can't. I wonder why?" Mom pokes at me.
"No...You promised not to talk about her. YOU PROMISED!" I tear up and run to my room.
"I-I'm gonna leave now," Henry says heading to the door.
"Yeah, I think that's best right now." Mom replies.
I continue to cry on the bed and fall asleep. I woke up after a while realizing that I haven't had dinner yet. I get out of bed and head downstairs. I notice that mom left some pasta on the table for me beside a note saying "Sorry :(" I let out a big sigh as I have my dinner. I later look at my phone and notice a text from Henry,
"Hey, are you ok?" The text says,
"Ya, I'm ok now," I reply,
"That's good." I read, then look to the ceiling. I look around the room and see the white door. Then an idea hits me. I text Henry saying, "What do you think about ghosts and going against the rules?"
Henry answers with, "Umm, ya I'm interested. What do you have in mind?"
"Oh, nothing," I hit send giving an evil grin.
