(5+1 the five times Steve left and the one time he didn’t)

He's all downtown Brooklyn and kissing in alleys ways; he wears leather jackets and smokes cigarettes hourly. He's rough around the edges and smooth on the inside, he's got a heart of gold and a fist of iron.

He's got messy blonde hair and blue eyes; a sweet boy that’s turned bad. He's got a coy smile and plump, pink lips that curl up over his white teeth.

There's something about the man that Tony cannot stay away from; he knows that he's dangerous and not good for him but he's addictive, a drug that Tony can't live without. He's a thrill, something different and exciting, something that makes Tony's toes curl.

And Tony is pretty sure that he's in love with the man that rides his motorcycle into the sunrise.

The first time that Tony Stark could say that he believed in love at first sight was on a cold Thursday morning in a cafe just outside of New York. The air was cold and frosty, his breath fogging in front of him as he cupped his coffee in his hands, letting the warm liquid warm him up from up the insides. Pepper sat opposite him, her red hair tucked up into the knitted hat she was wearing, pink flushing the apples of her cheeks as she spoke animatedly to him, her mitten-covered hands waving wildly as she gesticulated her ideas.

But Tony isn’t listening to her, can’t listen to her because his heart is thumping in his chest and his mind is running away with him because, there stood on the pavement outside the little coffee shop stood the most beautiful man that Tony had ever lied eyes upon, just standing there laughing and talking with his friend.

His head was thrown back as he laughed, his lips stretched and stained red from the cold. His hand was clutching at his brown leather jacket, clawing at his chest and he scrambled for breaths in-between his chuckles, and then just as Tony moved to look away from the perfect specimen the man glanced over and Tony fell in love.

His eyes were a beautiful dark blue, a deep cyan colour that was bluer then any ocean or sky that came on a hot summer’s day. They were gorgeous, and Tony blushed as they flashed to meet his avid gaze, his ears burning as the man winked at him before straddling his motorbike and kicking it to life.

“Tony! Tony are you even listening to me?” Pepper waved her hands in front of his face but Tony didn’t notice, his mind swept away when the motorcycle and the man drove away into the busy traffic of New York and Tony couldn’t help but wish that he’d known the man’s name.

For the second time in the whole of Tony’s life he didn’t know what to do with himself. (The first time was when he and Pepper broke up; he spent six months reducing his lung capacity before Pepper came over and kicked him out of his sulk). He’d spent days, week’s maybe even a month looking for the man that he’d fallen in love with, hacking into street cameras and editing pictures so that they were of high quality.

“JARVIS are you sure? Let’s run this image once more,” Tony pressed enter and the numbers ran, formulas popping over the screen, faces blinking past every millisecond before eventually beeping and excitedly Tony looked up at the screen to see the same error message blinking up. “WHY?” Tony threw his hands up in the air, splashing his coffee over the carpet of his university room.
