Chapter two

It took ages for Piper to get back up the hill.

She blamed it on the piece of metal. She didn't expect it to be this heavy, the thing was the size of her head anyway.

Once she got to the top, she threw the metal with all her strength, over the fence. The hard part was looking for a tree that's close to the fence. Once she got over the fence, she picked up the piece of metal and started to navigate herself out of the Hedge maze.

When she reached the entrance, she saw something blue in the corner of her eye. She quickly hid behind one of the stone pillars at the entrance of the maze. She knew very well what it was. It was a police officer. Her parents have probably called the entire department, she had to be careful. It was bad enough to get wet by the heavy rain.

Yay, thanks mom and dad she thought as she ran to the back door, once the police officer passed by. She stopped Infront of the back door and looked around her. Once she was sure no one was following her, she held the metal piece close to her chest with her right arm and placed her left hand on the door handle.

She was about to open the door when a voice called out to her.

"Hey! Don't move!"

Piper looked behind her, only to see a policeman. She gripped tightly on the metal piece.

"Are you Piper Patterson?"

Piper didn't answer. She was getting ready to open the door as fast as she could and close it. But that didn't seem possible as the policeman began walking up to her.

"I need to take you back to your parents, miss.....so you can just-"

Whatever he was about to say was interrupted by his Walkie talkie going off. This gave Piper an advantage. She flew open the back door and closed it, the lights of the kitchen automatically turning on as soon as she stepped inside. She could hear the rushing footsteps of the policeman, getting louder as they reached the door.

"Hey! Open this door!"

Piper pressed her back against the door, as he banged on the door with his knuckles. Suddenly the banging stopped, Piper could hear footsteps slowly retreating from the door. As soon as Piper was sure he was gone, she quietly sighed and slid down against the door to her knees. She held the metal piece with both hands and looked at the two yellow tails with white tips.

She HAS seen something like this before, but she just cant remember when. She wiped a raindrop from the metal, as the light shined on its metallic surface. That's when the kitchen door burst open.

"Who's here?!"

Said a familiar voice. It was one of the house maids. She wore a black dress with a white apron, her blond hair was tied back into a bun, and she was holding a broomstick. Piper let out a startled gasp. Which caught the maids attention.

"Piper? Dear me young lady! You had us worried sick!"

Piper stood to her feet, clutching the metal piece tightly. She held a finger to her lips and made a 'shh' noise.

"Mum and dad will hear!"

She whisper yelled.

"Right, sorry miss- look at you! Your soaking wet! Were you outside in the rain?"

Piper touched her hair. It was dripping wet. She looked at the maid and nodded. The maid looked calm now.

"Go upstairs and change into some dry clothes, should I tell your parents that you are back?"

Piper shook her head quickly.

"No! Not yet...."

The maid bowed her head.

"Of course"

Before Piper stepped out of the kitchen, the maid's eyes laid upon the metal piece in her hands.

"What in heavens is-"

Piper hid the metal piece behind her back and quickly ran out the kitchen.

"It's nothing!"

~

Piper shoved the metal piece under her bed. She had just finished drying her hair when her mother burst into the room through the trapdoor.

"Oh Piper!"

She attacked Piper into a hug, earning a small, started yelp from her.

"Oh my darling! We were so worried! We thought you'd never come back!"

She broke the hug and placed both of her hands on Piper's cheeks. Her expression went stern.

"Don't you ever do that again! I had to call the entire police department!"

"Not to mention embarrass us Infront of the McKendry family"

Said Piper's dad, who suddenly appeared in her room.

"I know....i-im sorry..."

Piper stuttered. But truthfully, she was not feeling guilty at all. She was glad she could avoid Todd for at least a week or two. Mrs Patterson's face softened a bit.

" I know dear, but you should of said something about being claustrophobic"

"Mom, I'm not-"

"Nonsense! I saw that look in your eyes! If you ever feel like that way again, don't be afraid to go outside"

Piper didn't argue. Being outside the mansion without a bodygaurd was all she ever wanted. Now she can go to that carnival without her parents stopping her.

"Okay mom...."

Mrs Patterson's smile returned to her face.

"Splendid. Dinners at six, okay sweetie?"

Piper nodded her head, she watched as her parents went down the ladder and shut the trap door. Now, every kid has a bed-ROOM, but Piper's room, is in the family's attic in the ceiling. It looks just like a normal bedroom, so don't worry. She doesn't sleep in a room with boxes and cobwebs.

Piper let out a sigh, and let herself fall on her bed with her arms spread across it. She stared at the gaming posters she had on the ceiling. Mario, Pacman, Megaman, Minecraft, Zelda, Pokémon.....and the Sonic The Hedgehog poster. Which was a picture of Sonics eye, with a glimpse of one of his ears, and the words 'Sonic adventure' near the bottom corner.

She stared it at for awhile, while thinking about the strange metal piece she found in the forest. That design of two tails, it looked awfully familiar......that's when realization hit her. Could it be?

Suddenly a loud tap came from her bedroom window. She ignored it, thinking it was a bird.

TAP!

Piper did not ignore it this time. She sat up on her bed bewildered. She waited for another tap to come, but alas it did not occur once more.

She gripped the edge of her bed with both hands, turned around, slowly.... And saw.....
