Chapter nine

Piper  didn't intend to fall asleep right there.

Especially, while holding the chaos emerald in her hand. Of course, when you sleep, that means dreams.

She was no longer in her bedroom, but outside. The sky was a temporary shade of royal blue, slowly turning into a deep black speckled with stars. The trees were swaying gently in the breeze while a smell of Petrichor lingered in the air, everything may have seemed okay, but in Piper's view it looked like she grew a few feet because she was peering over the trees.

She looked down and gasped. She was floating in mid air, her entire body was transparent as if she were a ghost.

Am I dead?  She thought.

She looked at her surroundings from below, all she saw was the back garden. It really looked like a hedge maze from up here, the little fairy lights hanged up on the pillars and bushes were glowing a faint, pastel yellow in the dark. Getting brighter as night fully emerged and showered the garden with moonlight.

She looked around her more, in the distance she could see the towering buildings of the city. A billion street lights from various colours of white, orange and red twinkled far away. She turned around to see her sleeping form asleep on the bedroom window. It freaked her out a bit.

The chaos emerald in her sleeping form's hand glowed bright, showering her with its blue light. As soon as she came face to face with it, her surroundings flickered and her dream shifted. She was now in the city, but it was in smoky ruins. The buildings were in heaps of rubble, some even had some fire still burning.

The sight was horrifying, everything she ever loved has been destroyed. She floated aimlessly over the building remains, floating through fire once in a while. Until she spotted something, a familiar looking red plane badly damaged, sitting in a pile of rubble as well as being covered.

She rushed towards it, kneeling down Infront of it. She stared at it in shock, a little tear formed in the corner of her eye, but she rubbed it away before it trailed down her cheek. She trailed her hand up and down against the tornados Metallic surface, as if reassuring it.

She didn't know what to think, she just stared at it, a bunch of different emotions started building up inside of her. Then, her surroundings flickered. A searing pain flared in her head, she jumped back from the tornado. Her vision constantly went from blurry to clear as she began to hear voices, some she didn't even recognize.

She heard her mother's voice, calling out to her from far away, warning her.

"Beware for he strives near"

"m...mum?" She managed to say. She looked around her, but all she saw were heaps of burning rubble.

"He strives near, child. He may seem mild. But he is a threat. Make a wrong move and you will regret."

 "Wrong choice? But- HONK!"

Piper woke up with a start, her hands were sweating with the chaos emerald still in their grasp. HONK! HONK!

She looked down to her left out of her window at the road, there was a line of cars with some angry drivers honking their horns one after the other. The line lead all the way into the city. "This is what happens when you live close to the city" she thought.

She rubbed her temples, the pain was still there from the dream but was slowly fading now. That had to be one of the worst dreams she has ever had, what had it all meant?

She looked down at the chaos emerald in her hand, glowing brightly as usual by her touch. It couldn't have been the emerald.....could it? She shrugged off the thought and placed the emerald under her bed. The chaos emeralds are only used to power Sonic, including machines as demonstrated by Dr Eggman. They can't do things like give you realistic and creepy dreams.

But still, the city, it was destroyed. Even the tornado was in bad condition, really bad condition. And those voices....one of them was her mother's voice. It told her to beware of something--it could be metal Sonic that it's talking about-- it also told her about making a wrong move. Another decision? She already has one to figure out, and that is the biggest one of her life.

What sort of decision could this one be? Perhaps one to stop the city to look like what she has seen in her dream?

She didn't have time to decipher her dream, as an explosion could be heard outside. She rushed over to the window, but couldn't see anything. She looked over to the city, and scanned the buildings. There was something orange on top of one of the building rooftops. At first, Piper didn't know what it was, that is until she heard another explosion.

Black smoke spurted out of windows near the top, the orange on top of the building became bigger and more wild looking. Piper's eyes widened.

Fire.
