This is for real no joke-- or am I?

Nah just kidding. It's totally real this time.

Chapter thirteen

"No!" Exclaimed Tails.

As he rushed over to the edge of the building, watching helplessly as Piper fell down towards earth. Metal Sonic nose dived as gracefully as robots do when they get hit on the side of the head; and crashed into the nearest building. Sonic ran to his side, he grabbed Tails by the waist with both hands when he tried to fly after her. "Sonic! We have to help her!" Yelled Tails as he tried to get out of Sonic's grip.

Sonic shook his head sadly as Tails whimpered, wanting to ever so hard to reach Piper and save her. Finally, he gave up and hugged Sonic as he could not bare to see Piper as soon as she hit the ground below. Sonic patted the space between Tails' ears, he looked back at the building that metal Sonic crashed into. He knew that that metallic monstrosity will come back; and when he does, he'll pay dearly.

Below them, the sounds of sirens bellowed. Overhead, they could hear the sound of a helicopter flying around; getting closer with every second. They both knew they had to get out of there, as they could not risk being seen. They hurried over to the tornado, which was close to falling over the edge from the battle earlier. Tails quickly climbed in and put on his pilot goggles as Sonic hopped on the left wing.

Tails gave one last glance; as if Piper might appear there any second. Alas, she did not. He turned back sadly to the control panel and started the plane. Before they could even fly off an inch from the building, a blinding white flash emitted. As if it sent out a force field, the force from that mini like explosion spread out into a white ring of energy. Instantly, the sounds of car alarms stopped.

Fires crackling and tumbling remains of damaged buildings were silenced. The energy climbed over building after building. It swept over the tornado; giving Tails and Sonic a strange feeling of comfort. Finally once it has covered every damaged bit of the area, the ring disintegrated. What a strange feeling...yet so familiar. Sonic tapped Tails shoulder, causing Tails to look in his direction.

He gaped to see the rooftop of the building was no longer damaged. Signs of the battle with metal Sonic were completely gone. Important of all: he could not smell smoke anymore. Doubtful, he told Sonic to hold on as he flew the tornado off from the building. He flew above the city, and was amazed to see it unharmed.

There were no flames, no building residue; everything looked normal. As if an attack by a metallic robot never happened. Fortunately, Tails and Sonic weren't the only two who has noticed this sudden change. The people down below who were running around trying to get to safety just a few seconds ago; were now as bewildered as ever.

Sonic pointed to an area down below, where something shiny glistened in the sunlight. Tails steered the tornado down a bit to that area of the city. As soon as they got close enough, Tails took out his binoculars and looked through them towards the 'shiny' thing. He zoomed in a little bit and stifled a gasp. He put down his binoculars and flew closer, whatever it was sure gave him a surprise.

It was then Sonic wondered what Tails could of seen. He tapped Tails' shoulder once more, and asked "what is it?" In a form of sign language. Tails placed a hand on a lever on the control panel before answering. "It's metal Sonic, it looks like he's malfunctioned. We can't leave him here where he will be found by the government--i think that's the reason why Piper has been hiding us."

He pulled the lever and a black, flat circular magnet tied to a cable flew out of the bottom of the tornado. It caught metal Sonic in its magnetic field, then zoomed straight back into the tornado as soon as Tails pressed a random button on the control panel. Tails then steered the tornado back up in the sky and started to fly back to the forest behind the Patterson's back garden.

He had this expression between bewilderment and worry. Sonic knew there was gonna be some explaining to do as soon as they got back to their temporary 'home'.

"I just don't understand.....I don't understand.....what was that white light? That energy?"

Tails paced back and forth around the burnt out campfire from the night before. He wanted to get answers; he wanted to know that Piper was not really gone and that this was all a misunderstanding. Sonic slumped back against the tornado next to metal Sonic. Since he wasn't functioning and was completely devoid of any life; he was considered safe. Besides, all he was now was a ragdoll.

Sonic waved his hands in the air to get Tails attention. Tails stopped his endless cycle of walking in circles and looked at him. Sonic did a series of sign language, doing the movements so fast it was hard for Tails to interpret. As soon as he was done, Tails gave him a look a student might give to a teacher when they can't understand what the teacher is trying to teach.

Sonic pouted in an annoyed manner and pulled out a notepad and pen from behind the seat in the tornado. He began scribbling furiously at rapid speed with the pen before handing the notepad over to Tails.

'There may be a possibility that what we have seen was the work of chaos energy.'

"Chaos energy?" Repeated Tails.

Sonic nodded and sat back down next to metal Sonic. Tails handed him back the pen and notepad. "But.....can a human even withstand such energy?" He said. Sonic shrugged and flipped over a new page in the notepad and started writing. Once done, he handed it to Tails.

'The only way to know for sure is if we find Piper, or wait for her to come herself.'

Tails lowered the notepad from his view. He paused for a second before speaking. "Does this mean she had the Chaos emerald....?.......Sonic, do you know of any other abilities you can do with an emerald?" He asked. Sonic looked away from him, scratching his forehead with one finger while clicking the pen on and off in a small; familiar tune.

"Sonic?" Said Tails once more. Sonic stopped what he was doing and took the notepad from Tails' hands. He began to write slowly, (which was unusual for him given his speed--). As soon as he was finished, or when Tails thought he was, he looked up at him and gestured for him to take the notepad. Tails took the notepad and read what he has wrote.

'I think, maybe, that she may have used Chaos control. You remember the taller me, right? He has used it before. Maybe that's it.'

"Chaos control" repeated Tails, as if those two words were reverberating in his head.

Chaos control.
