My eyelids felt heavy as they slowly fluttered open to sunlight seeping through an open window. I sat up, groggy and cranky with a pounding headache. I suddenly looked around and blinked, realizing I was on Leo's massive couch rather than my bedroom.I kicked off the sheets and slowly got up to stretch, my bare feet meeting the cold, hardwood floor. Leo was seated at the kitchen table with a bowl of cereal in front of him, a spoon in one hand and his phone in the other. He looked up from whatever he was doing and grinned at me, his hair messier than ever.
"Morning, Sleeping Beauty," he teased, holding up the time on his phone which read 12:07 PM. I chuckled silently and pulled up a chair next to him, yawning as I rested my elbows on the table and propped my head up in my hands. "How'd you sleep?" he continued.
I reached over to grab the spoon from him and helped myself to a bite of his cereal. I made a face as soon as I realized it was soggy. "Fine. Your couch is comfy."
Leo flashed me a lopsided grin before pushing himself away from the table and sauntering over to the sink with his almost empty bowl. "You could've just slept on the big bed with me, you know."
I snorted upon hearing this, raising an eyebrow at him. "You were acting super weird last night, but I guess that's 'cause you were drunk out of your mind."
"Was I?" he laughed, turning to face me over his shoulder and cocking his head to one side. I nodded slowly, joining him in his laughter and pulling my phone out to check my texts. I had three from John, two from my best friend, Fiona, back home in Vermont, and one from my younger brother, Corey.
My family as well as my closest friends all lived in Vermont where I grew up, so we tried to visit each other as often as possible. Not that Fiona minded; she loved visiting me in LA. She had flown in just last week to meet everyone from the cast. I hadn't seen Corey in a while. He and his fiancée were currently expecting a baby so it was harder for us to see each other since he was always caring for her. Being only two years apart, we had always been close. We FaceTimed almost every day. He had even met Leo and the others over the phone a couple times.
"John says he can pick us up for the airport tonight," I reported to Leo as I scrolled through my messages. He nodded, still rinsing his bowl at the sink. I was startled at the sound of my phone buzzing and looked down to see Fiona's name, grinning before accepting the FaceTime call. "Hey!" I greeted her happily as she beamed at me, her joyful laugh ringing through the phone. "Hey, Fi," Leo greeted her from across the room. "Leo says hi," I informed her in case she hadn't heard.
"I miss you so much! Are you excited for Mexico?" I could see the walls of her bright colored apartment in view behind her. Leo tossed me an apple as I mouthed him a 'thank you', turning my attention back to Fiona. "Yeah, I am. It's gonna be fun when we aren't shooting and actually have free time to explore."
"You don't think filming's gonna be fun?" Leo chuckled, seating himself beside me as he grinned at Fiona who blushed through the phone. I rolled my eyes at him. "Not really."
"Well that's because you've never filmed with me before," he teased as I nudged his shoulder playfully.
The conversation with Fiona went on for a couple more minutes before we said our goodbyes. "Wanna go grab some coffee?" Leo asked hopefully, staring at me with puppy-dog-eyes. I laughed at how childish he was and nodded as he ruffled my hair. Leo couldn't get through the day without a cup of coffee.
We made our way outside and piled into the car. Leo took no time in turning up the radio and blasting a happy song, mouthing the lyrics and bouncing in his seat as he drove. "Watch the road!" I shrieked, laughter bubbling out of me as I watched Leo. He was dancing as he drove and singing at the top of his lungs, turning to me every five seconds to grab my arm and get me to dance with him.
