"I hate flying," Leo whined, leaning against me as we waited for our suitcases at the baggage claim. "I always feel sick after.""You poor baby," I laughed, mockingly pinching his cheek as he swatted me away. I pulled my phone out to text Fiona, Corey, and my parents that I had safely landed in Mexico. "Tell Corey I said hi," Leo said suddenly, glancing over my shoulder as I texted. "Stalker," I teased, pulling my phone away so he couldn't see the screen as he held his hands up and snorted.
"It's so hot here," John wailed, sauntering over to us and dramatically fanning himself with his hand. "I should not have worn a sweatshirt."
"I'm gonna have to agree with you on that one," Leo breathed out, tugging at the collar of his sweatshirt to reveal his sweaty chest. His damp hair was sticking to his forehead already and I laughed, brushing it out of the way for him as he rolled his eyes and chuckled. "Our hotel better have a pool."
I nodded in agreement, spotting Leo's suitcase and nudging him towards it.
\\
"Everyone feel free to relax for today but tomorrow we're gonna start filming!" Baz informed all of us once we had reached the hotel.
"What are we filming first?" I wondered, shouldering my backpack and turning to face him as Leo made his way over to us to join the conversation.
"Well I thought we could shoot Romeo and Juliet's first night together—you know, the nude scene—tomorrow night, and then pick up with the 'morning after' scene as soon as the sun comes up so we can get some good lighting through the windows."
I chewed on my bottom lip and nodded, feeling Leo glance at me. "I hope you guys have practiced all that!" Baz called over his shoulder as he strolled away.
Leo gripped my shoulder and shook me lightly when he saw the nervous look on my face. "Stop! Don't be nervous."
"I'm not nervous," I lied, crossing my arms haughtily. "I'm an actress. I'm used to awkward scenes."
"How is it awkward?" Leo cocked his head at me, purposely acting clueless as I shoved him, causing him to laugh. "Pretty sure you seeing my boobs is awkward."
He lifted a hand to ruffle my hair and slowly started to walk away. "It's only awkward if you make it awkward," he hummed tauntingly.
I sauntered over to Harry and Paul who were sprawled on a large couch in the lobby. "Hey guys."
"What's up, Bev?" Harry yawned through his greeting, yanking one of his earbuds out. I plopped down next to him and tossed my wild hair into a careless bun, sure that it looked ridiculous on top of my head. "I'm pretty exhausted. I just want to sleep."
"I hear that our suites have huge beds," Paul reassured me, snickering at my tired and cranky state. A let out a sigh of relief upon hearing this.
"What are we shooting tomorrow? I know that the day after tomorrow we're filming all the fighting scenes," Harry wondered. I rolled my eyes as Paul laughed. "Tomorrow they're shooting all the nude scenes, but clearly Bev is dreading it," Paul teased.
"Oh, so tomorrow's sexy time with Leo, huh?" Harry snorted as I swatted him.
"It's okay," he continued, scrolling through the songs on his phone and selecting one. "Leo's seen plenty of boobs, so yours won't faze him that much."
I gave him a tight smile before rising from my seat and making my way to the elevator to go check out my room.
\\
"Bev, it's your line."
I was snapped out of my thoughts at the sound of Leo's voice as I turned to face him. It was probably past ten o'clock and the two of us were seated on the sand at the beach behind our hotel, practicing some of our scenes.
"Sorry," I yawned. Leaning back and laying down on the cool sand, staring up at the dark sky. I noticed the moon was only half full.
"You know, this isn't at all how we should be practicing this scene. We're supposed to be on the bed and-"
"I know how we're supposed to be!" I cut him off, rolling my eyes and flapping my hand at him as he snickered. He leaned back and propped himself up on his elbows, turning his head to look at me. "Why do you hate this scene so much?"
"I don't hate the scene."
"Is it because we're gonna be naked?"
"No! Oh my god."
"Is it because we have to kiss and stuff?"
"No!"
He rolled his head back up towards the sky, laughing under his breath. "Better not be. I'm a great kisser."
I snorted and turned to face him. "Okay, don't get all cocky now. It's nothing special," I lied. I refused to admit to myself or to him that he was easily one of the best kissers I had come across.
"Not like you have much to compare it to," Leo snickered, glancing at me out of the corner of his eye. A smile twitched at his lips.
I glared at him as I felt my jaw clench. "Just because I don't date doesn't mean I don't have flings."
"Oh, you have flings?" he exclaimed in a fake shocked tone as I shot him a dirty look. He scooched closer and draped an arm around my shoulder, planting a peck on my head and chuckling. "I'm just messing with you."
As we walked side-by-side back to the hotel some time later, a billion thoughts swarmed through my head. The scene wasn't a big deal—it really wasn't. The problem was that every time Leo and I kissed...every time he looked into my eyes as Romeo and spoke to me in a voice as smooth as silk when we were performing our scenes together...a million butterflies always appeared inside me. And I didn't know why. Leo was practically my best friend—we had grown incredibly close. The fact that there was no explanation I could offer to myself as to why I got a panicky feeling in my gut every time we acted together scared me.
I always told myself that it was just physical. He was, without a doubt, an incredibly gorgeous man. It was easy to become flustered around him, friends or not.
It's your first romance movie, and you're doing it with one of the most attractive actors out there. Your feelings are completely normal, I told myself as I crawled under my sheets.
Satisfied with this explanation, I pushed all thoughts of Leo to the back of my mind and shut my eyes, drifting off into a deep sleep.
