"Are you almost ready?" You heard Tyler call from outside of your room. You were getting ready for the Christmas party at Josh's house, and Tyler had offered to pick you up. Right now, you were grabbing the sweater that both Tyler and Josh were wearing so that you guys could 'twin' together. It was Josh's idea, and you thought it was cute, so you went along with it.
"Yup," you replied, opening the door to reveal Tyler leaning against the wall, a smile on his face. He looked adorable in his sweater, along with a traditional red Santa hat on his head, his hair peaking out from under it. You wanted to fix it for him, but you knew that you didn't have the confidence to touch him so carelessly. You wished you could, though. Whenever he touched you, even something as simple as his shoulder brushing against yours, you felt butterflies in your stomach.
"Then let's go," he said, breaking your trance. The two of you left the apartment, walking to Tyler's car which was parked right outside.
Once you got in, Tyler immediately turned the heat on. Neither of you had coats on, so that small walk from the apartment to the car was freezing cold. The warm air felt nice against your skin.
"Alright," Tyler started as he began driving out of the complex. "I know you've never been to one of Josh's Christmas parties before since you're always away during this time of the year, so let me just warn you." You rose an eyebrow, confused as to what he could possibly tell you. It was just a Christmas party with a bunch of friends and family, what did he have to warn you about? "Josh and his family take the whole mistletoe thing a little too seriously. And I mean it. If they see any two people standing under one, they'll make them kiss," he explained, making you chuckle to yourself. You couldn't help thinking about what would happen if you and Tyler were under one together. There would've been no way you would've kissed him in front of everyone.
"They can't make anyone kiss. People can make their own choices," you countered.
"Yeah, you're right," he responded, "but if you don't, they'll tease you about it and Josh will never let you live it down. You just don't want to be caught under it with someone, not unless you're craving a kiss," he said jokingly, a stupid smile on his face as he glanced at you for a second, but quickly diverted his eyes back to the road. You rolled your eyes, but giggled anyway. "And by the way," he continued, "those things are everywhere in his house, so watch where you stand."
"Thanks for the warning, Ty," you said a bit sarcastically. "Have you ever gotten caught under one?" He hummed, pausing for a moment.
"Sort of. But it was one of Josh's little sister's friends so... they made an exception. That would've been a little too weird, especially because she was a bit younger than me. Ever since then, I've learned to avoid it," he explained.
"Well, now I'm nervous," you told him with a slight laugh. "You'll have to watch out for me."
"Trust me, I will," he replied. You weren't exactly sure why he was so keen on warning you about this. He loved teasing you, wouldn't he have had a good laugh if you were caught under the mistletoe with a random stranger? You figured he was just trying to be a good friend and save you from embarrassment.
When you finally arrived, Josh opened the door with a bright smile, his matching sweater already on. You gave him a hug, and walked inside to be greeted with some friends and Josh's family members. There were a lot of people here, and just by the look of it, it seemed like everyone was having a good time, even though the party had just started. There were children running around, and people were chilling on the couch. You immediately began looking for mistletoes, just so you'd have an idea of where some of them were.
