Simon hoisted Tessa to her feet before she was even awake. They looked at each other, about to turn tail and run until a small but powerful voice was heard.
"Don't you dare!"
"Will..." Alec and Magnus breathed in unison, voices catching.
The sources of the noises came into view but the two lycanthropes did not notice the absence of their prisoners. A dark-haired, pale-eyed boy was taking up all their attention. One of the werewolves, the taller one with a dark, scraggy beard, held Will by his ankles. Will glared at him defiantly, arms crossed over his chest with the upmost arrogance.
"Don't you touch Tessa." He growled.
"Or what?" The downworlder sneered.
"My Daddy will kill you."
"And which Daddy would that be?"
The other wolf laughed.
"I only have one, stupid. My Daddy is gonna hit you and then Papa's gonna shoot you with fire." Will bared his teeth.
The two lycanthropes laughed at him, the one holding him swinging him from side to side.
Will spat and it hit the wolf right between the eyes, the werewolf roared and threw Will at the tunnel wall where he slammed into it, slid to the floor and did not move.
The smaller downworlder let out a strangled cry, "We can't hurt the prisoners! That's the one rule, don't hurt the prisoners!"
The taller one ignored him, "Wheres the traitor?"
Luke, haggard looking and with shackles around his ankles clunked into view. Sara and Harper were nestled in his arms, a smart idea, he couldn't lash out or attack in any way without causing damage to them.
A third lycanthrope strolled behind him, dragging Tessa and Max by chains attached to their scrawny wrists.
The third froze, the two little Herondales smacking into the back of his legs. He was too panicked to scold them, "Where the hell are the prisoners?" Finally, someone had noticed.
"Now!" Jace barked and the nephilim plus warlock leaped through the holes and into the tunnels, knocking out two of the lycanthropes instantaneously. Magnus wrestled with the third and came out on top, a dagger pressed to the werewolf's throat.
"Magnus, no." Jem lay a hand on his trembling shoulder.
"Haven't you seen what he did to Will?" Magnus's voice brimmed with anguish, his pain beginning to spill over the edge.
"He's alive." Tessa murmured, "There's no use in needless killing, you're better than that."
With tears of frustration wetting his cheeks, Magnus spun the dagger the other way around and drove the hilt into the wolf's temple, not enough force to kill him but enough to make sure he would be out of the picture for a long while.
The others had snapped Luke, small Tessa and Max's shackles and were helping those that needed it up to the surface. Alec was checking Will's pulse, a look that mirrored Magnus's destroying his usually carefully arranged features.
"Clary," Magnus ordered, his face cooling to its usual resolve, "open a portal to the New York institute, it's not safe to return to the manor. Raphael and Kirsten are there with Maryse."
Clary did as he said and they began filing through quickly, keen to be away before back up arrived.
Alec, crouching up on ground level with Will slung over his shoulder, offered Magnus a hand up, "You spoke to my mother?"
Magnus took the support even though he didn't need it, just glad to be able to touch Alec again, "Didn't have many other options."
"And she's okay with you?" Alec heaved Magnus up beside himself.
"I didn't exactly stick around to find out."
"Oh...she's going to freak when we all go charging though that portal, isn't she?" Alec's fingers brushed distracted circles on Will's lower back as he stood.
A ghost of a smile danced across Magnus's lips and he reached to stroke affectionately at Will's hair, "Lets go and find out."
