Amelia smiled brightly at Jerry as she showed him the two pieces of papers, making their way to the Cuthbert's barn, as Amelia had offered to help seeing as Anne had left with the Barrys to Charlottetown. Jerry furrowed his eyebrows, as his french accent pulled through. "What's that for?" Amelia smiled even bigger as she danced around him. "I finally finished writing my letter to Gilbert!" Jerry smiled softly, as he got lost in his own thoughts. He couldn't understand how you could leave a girl like Amelia behind, knowing how she felt about you. A girl so bright and kind, filled with happiness. He just couldn't understand. But he didn't mention any of that to Amelia, not wanting to burst her bubble of perfect happiness.

"It took me so long! But I finally finished it. I guess I'll ask my father to send it, seeing as he's going to Charlottetown tomorrow." she chattered happily, as they entered the barn, only to be startled by Nate, who sat in a dark corner. Jerry subcounciously flinched, Nate looking up to them. "Hey kids." he said, his slow drawl making the both kids stare at each other nervously. He pointed at Amelia with his drink in his hand. "What's that?"

Amelia looked down at her letter, before quickly stuffing it inside own of her jacket pockets. "Nothing." she muttered, as Nate raised his hands in defense. "Just asking." as soon as he saw the kids curiously looking at his bottle. "What, you've never seen booze before?" he turned his attention to Jerry. "Aren't you frenchy? I thought they taught you this early." he remarked, taking another chug.

"We don't keep alcohol in the house. Um, we're...we're catholic." Nate observed at the two kids standing awkwardly, grinning in amusement. "C'mere." Amelia and Jerry looked at each other unsurely, trying to figure out a way out of the situation. "We better get our jobs, we don't wa-" Amelia was interrupted harshly.

"Sit here with me." the amusement had left him, and Amelia felt scard for the first time in Avonlea. Jerry went to sit next to him, and Amelia followed, as Nate pushed them against the wall, and pushed the bottle right under their nouse. "Here, have a taste." Amelia scrunched her nouse up and looked away, not liking the strong bitter smell that wafted out. Jerry looked away in distate, muttering a no thank you. "What, are you scared?" mocked Nate, pushing the drink further into their faces. "No." muttered Jerry angrily.

"Then drink." Jerry beathed heavily in and out. "We should get back to work." when Nate didn't move, Amelia pushed him away, helping Jerry stand up. "We've got things to do, unlike you, who waste their day just drinking it away." when Nate stood up and got near her, Amelia sucked in a breath, awaiting the wrath of the older scientist. "You're to young to drink anyway." he harshly messed her hair up before walking away, tripping once without falling. Amelia let out a breath, looking at Jerry. "There's something seriously wrong with that man." she said, and Jerry nodded, as he uneasily watched him walk away, not being able to put his finger on it.

Amelia walked down the field next to Jerry. They had finished all their jobs, and now headed back home after a hard day of work. Amelia couldn't wait to get home and get into her own bed, as she was exhausted of carrying heavy bags across the fields. They neared the edge of the woods, before hearing a noise behind them. Amelia turned around, making Jerry fall and pull her down with him, as they both laid on the ground. Amelia groaned as she had hit the back of her head, as she looked up dizzily to Nate, who was looking down towards them with a stern expression.

Amelia felt that surpressing of fear again as she stared up at him. "What's up, princess and froggy?" Jerry frowned, before pointing an accusing finger. "It was you!" Amelia frowned in confusion, wondering what he was talking about, as Jerry stood up hotheaded. Amelia followed suit, still feeling a bit dizzy. Amelia watched horrified as she watched Jerry lung at Nate and swing a punch at him, but Nate dodged. "Stop! Don't hurt him!" she screamed.

But it was too late.

Nate swiflty punched him hard enough on the head, causing Jerry's limp body to fall sideways to the ground. Amelia gasped softly, eyeing to see if Jerry was still breathing, and sighed in relief to see his chest going up and down. She slowly looked at Nate, who looked at her with a terrifying look in his eyes. Amelia felt a rage spark inside her before shouting, and lunging at him. She clearly hadn't thought that twice. Nate pushed her arms away and wrapped his hands around her throat, as he squeezed strongly, lifting her body up a few inches.

Amelia widened her eyes as she tried to unwrap his fingers of her throat, with no success. Black dots danced in her vision, as her movements got slower and weaker. She heard a shout, before Nate dropped her and left her there, next to Jerry. She tried to stand up, to call for help, anything. But she felt her body go numb as she slowly fell into subconcious.

The last sound she heard was numerous fast horse running towards them, and a gunshot.
