When we're underneath the lights

My heart's no longer broken

For a moment

Just for a moment

A moment in love

(Guys go listen to this song, it's called Just For A Moment, by Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, it TOTALLY describes Amelia and Gilbert to perfection.)

As soon as Amelia placed her gaze upon Gilbert's face, she knew that something was wrong. She knew him well enough to recognise that look on his face. The last time she had seen that kind of look on his face was when his father had passed away. And she was correct. And god was she shocked. She couldn't believe out of all the people in the world, Mary was the one with a ticking clock over her head.

She walked alongside him, on their way to his house. Once Amelia had heard about the news, she assured her father she would spend the next few days with them to help around. She was sure that neither Mary, Bash or Gilbert would be in the mood to.

"I don't think I could be a doctor." Gilbert broke the silence, being able to confide in her in this moment of grief. She turned to him in disbelief, as they both continued walking. "Doctors are supposed to...I was...I had to tell her-" Amelia leaned a hand on his shoulder, making him clench his jaw.

"Don't." Amelia flinched at his words, feeling the pain herself. "I'm not the one dying. I'm not the one losing everything." Amelia walked up to catch up to him, understanding his point of view but having a different one herself. "But you're losing her. And that's equally as painful, even if they are different types of pain."

"But she needed for me to be strong. I was selfish and let my feelings get the best of me." Amelia frowned, and got hold of his wrist, stopping him in his tracks. They stood alone in the field of dry grass, a soft breeze blowing as Amelia stared into his honey brown eyes, her belief in him never faltering for one second. "I know this is the last thing you want to hear, but death is inevitable."

"And in such a cold moment, a moment of grief and loss, someone who cares is what anyone needs. Someone like you." Amelia locked their hands together as Gilbert stared at her with something in his eyes that she couldn't quite describe. "You'll be a wonderful doctor. I always had and always will have faith in you."
