I sat on my bed, hugging my pillow tightly as tears streamed down my face, thinking about everything I had accidentally overheard on my way to my room.
Raoul had been cheating on me this entire time, and I was oblivious to his game. Blinded by his charms and charismatic persona. I felt.. stupid, for not realizing it sooner. I thought back over the moments we shared, now that I know, the signs were as clear as day that I wasn't the only one in his life, romantically speaking, anyways.
There was a heavy knock on my door. "Lora, are you awake?" Francoeur said from the hallway.
"Yes, i'm awake." I tried to sound as happy as possible while speaking.
"Breakfast is ready downstairs, I figured I would try and whip us up something since Raoul and Lucille went out earlier for groceries."
"You can cook?"
"I just followed one of Lucille's cookbook recipes. I know it's not perfect, but I figured, why not?"
I turned to the side of my bed, putting my slippers on as I walked to my bedroom door. I opened the door, holding my head down so he wouldn't see my eyes that were now bloodshot from crying.
"Something the matter Lora?" He asked, I could feel him looking down at me.
"Oh uh n-no, I guess it's taking me a minute to fully wake up.." I pretended to yawn.
He picked me up, setting me on his shoulders. "Then we can't take the risk of you tripping down the stairs." He chuckled as he carried me down to the kitchen.
I wiped my eyes with my arm, wiping away what hot tears remained on my face. I decided that I was going to deal with Raoul later, and enjoy today like nothing happened. There was no point in putting Francoeur in a bad mood. He set me down next to a chair. "I'll go get some plates for us." He said as he wandered into the kitchen.
I sat down in the chair next to me, and looked at the breakfast he had prepared. I saw pancakes, what looked to be bacon, it was burned slightly, but still looked like bacon. The eggs he had made looked to be cooked well, though after seeing the bacon, my expectations were lowered.
Francoeur came back out of the kitchen with two plates, he sat down setting one in front of me. I hesitantly put a pancake, a piece of bacon, and a small amount of eggs. I could see him looking at me, waiting to see what I thought of his food. I cut a piece of the pancake, and put it in my mouth.
I coughed, partially out of laughter, partially as a natural reflex, my body tried to force me to spit out whatever I had just put in my mouth. The bottom of the pancake was burned, there were chunks of batter strewn in the pancake, I assume he didn't mix the batter enough. I cleared my throat as I continued chewing the pancake. "I-its good Francoeur.." I lied. "Have you tasted it yet?" He shook his head as he cut the pancake. He put it in his mouth, and from what I could tell, had a similar reaction. He hesitantly swallowed the pancake, and began to laugh. "You don't have to pretend to like it, Lora."
I swallowed the pancake. "I'll admit it's not the best meal i've had, but i'm glad you tried to make breakfast."
"Right, could you maybe help me clean up the kitchen?" He said, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Sure." I walked towards the kitchen doors. "It can't be that-" I ate my words at that exact moment.
A bowl once filled with pancake batter was laying on its side, a stream of wet batter ran over the counter, down the side of it, and formed a pool on the floor, clumps of flour were laying across the counter space and across the floor. The stove was covered in both raw and burned chunks of pancake batter, as well as pieces of egg in the same condition. I looked and saw a package of bacon hidden underneath a mountain of flour. I grabbed some cleaning supplies from the cabinet below the sink. "Well.. lets get started.." I sighed and began cleaning the counter.
