I couldn't believe that I was getting married to a man who A) loves me B) seems to be in the deen and C) very good looking!!
Today was the day Hussen and his gamily would come to our house and help plan the wedding. I hurried downstairs in my pajamas and kitty slippers.
Asim was already downstairs fixing himself some breakfast.
"Why are you so happy? Is it because some sad desperate guy begged you to marry you?" Asim smirked."Actually, Asim, he wasn't desperate, he even said that he fell in love with me right when he saw me!" I felt proud having those words come out of my mouth. Ummi and Baba walked down the stairs.
"Sabahill Noor hubibties!" Ummi kissed Asim and I on the the foreheads.
"Sabahill Khair Ummi and Baba!" We sat down around the table.
"I can't believe my daughter is already getting married!" Baba took a seat beside me. "It feels like just yesterday, you were learning to talk, Subahanallah." Baba always knew what to say.
After breakfast Asim leaves to a friends house since he isn't allowed at the meeting, and I get dressed. I wear a white hijab and a coral pink maxi dress. As I'm getting dressed I remember something, more like someone. Samia! I completely forgot to tell her that I would be getting married to Hussen. I snatched up my phone and dialed my best friend's number.
"Salam Samia." I say when she picks up the phone.
"Salam Zainub, what's up?" she asks
"We'll you know Alkah and His throne-" I chuckle at my humor uneasily.
"No silly I'm talking about what's going on in YOUR life." oh gosh here it comes.
"Well, I ummmm... uhhh."
"Just spit it out will 'ya!" Samia yells into the phone.
"Fine! I'm getting married to Hussen!!" I yell back. Silence, nothing but dead silence.
"How, how is that possible?" Samia sound heartbroken!
"How could you not feel happy for me? I'm your best friend, don't you ever think about anyone other than yourself!" How could Samia do this to me? She wasn't the least bit happy that I would be getting married. Before Samia could say anymore I hung up the phone. I quickly pushed the thoughts of Samia away, 'cause well, I have a wedding to plan.
I race down the stairs to answer the door when Hussen and his family rings the doorbell.
"Asalamualakum!" I greet each one of my new family members including Hussen with a smile.
Ummi and Baba are waiting for us on the couch.
"Let Zainub and Hussen sit next to each other, they would look so cute!" Hussen's mother, Hala Zaria leads me to sit next to Hussen.
"I was thinking that the color scheme of the wedding could be a key lime green or a baby blue." suggests Ummi when we all are seated.
"Yes, I agree with you Hala Najma. What do you think Zainub?" Hussen looks me straight in the eyes.
"Yeah, um that would look very pretty with white." I smile back at Hussen. "Hey, what if we drew out how we want the hall to look for the wedding?" everyone agrees with my plan. I take our a piece if paper and a pencil and begin to draw a large stage where me and Hussen would sit with our bridesmaids and best men.
I draw about ten tables draped in a silk white table cloth, the center pieces of the tables are white lilies and blue carnations.
"The layout looks beautiful," Hussen complements me.
"Thank you." I answer not looking up from my drawing.
After we decide the date and the layout of the wedding we talk about the dresses for my bridesmaids and my dress. I take out another piece of paper and draw a long sleeved white ball gown with beautiful pearl beads and jewels place around the hem, collar and waist. The train in the back of the dress is long and has a big boy in the middle. The dress is just how I've always dreamed my wedding dress to be
like. After that we drink tea, talk a little, make more plans on the guest list and other things. Soon its time for Hussen and his family to go. We say our salams to them and they leave.
After I hear their car drive away I flop onto my bed and sleep until Maghrib without even changing out of my dress.
