During breakfast, I was greeted with a shock.
" Yes kaka (older brother) yes of course. That is fine. hmmm.. uhuh. yep. Ok kaka. Sure sure. yes. ok ok. No problem eh? ok ok. Salam alaikum... walaikum salam."
My dad was talking to some guy and my mom was intently listening. They were sitting in the living room while my sister and I wrapped up breakfast and proceeded to clean up.
I was curious as to what they were saying.
" What is it Ebrahim? Did they find something?" My mom questioned my dad.
" Yes Banu, they did. Thanzee is very lucky!!" my dad replied.
" What? What is it?" I asked with confusion. Honestly, why can't people be straightforward cuz I'm always confused.
" One of my distant kakas have found a list of suitors for you Thanzee! They all belong to good families and are very educated. I was told there were one or two doctors on the list but mostly from other professions. Do check them out." informed my dad.
" Oh ok. But pa, I asked for tim--"
" How much longer will we give you huh? you are 23. In 5 months you will turn 24, it is November now." interrupted my mom
" Alright fine! Have it your way then. What should I do?" I asked
" Go to work now, but when you get home, review these boys' biodata and photos, give them a call maybe if they interest you. At least call one of them." directed my mom
" I'm not gonna just call some random perso--"
" Just do what we say and you will be good ok?" my mom said.
"Mom? CAN YOU PLEASE STOP INTERRUPTING ME PLEASE?" I asked.
" Ok ok. sorry." she said.
" Dad, why so fast? I told you guys to wait a little bit longer."
" Thanzee ma, we already gave you lots of time. You got the required education, have a job, are makeing money, now this is the next step. How long are you anticipating living under this roof?" asked my dad
" SEE? this is exactly what I said but with different words." my mom added
I glared at my mom and she glared back at me.
" I'm sorry pa. Do you not want me here? I am just asking for some more time because I haven't even thought about this yet." I said
" No no Thanzee. It's not that, it's just we want you to have a family of your own, you, your husband, your kids, we want to see that, that's all your mother and I want. ok?" my dad said with a smile.
Naturally, I love both my parents. But I was closer to my mom than my dad when I was little and now it's vice versa now that I am older. My dad is such a sweetheart I cannot resist listening to him.
I sighed and said, " ok pa, I understand. But if I don't like anyone, I don't like them ok?" i said looking at my mom.
My mom smiled and said ok ok. I gave them both a hug and went off to work.
