I, myself, have never been one
To force myself to write a poem.
Other people can whip up
Some lines and verse
And call themselves a poet
Only for their rhyming lines.
Others claim to be a poet
Because they rant their feelings out
And break up the lines intermittently.
I don't believe in that.
The most real poems are ones
Backed by real life emotion.
I'm sure Frost came to a fork
Every once in a while.
Even Sandburg saw the feline fog.
But there are some poems I
don't believe the poet lived or felt.
I believe the measure of a good poet is
whether or not they can convey their feelings
In a manner that sings to the reader's soul.
However, I don't really know if I truly do
Believe in all that stuff I just said.
I'm doing exactly what I said
Phony poets often do.
Who knows? Am I really a poet?
