I wondered as I traveled down my path
What things I'd see herein my wood today,
And what surprises nature for me hath,
And mem'ries formed in mind along the way!I spot the gleaming blue beyond the trees:
A warm and clear azure between the brown.
The pond is in my view! What pleasing green
Extends its branches! Yes! They're out for me!And as my foot approaches sandy coast,
Between my toes comes quick the rising sand.
My eye is caught across the lake! A ghost
Thereof a fleeting fawn in letup stands. And I am gleeful just to see the fawn
But I am sorry so when she is gone.
