2 years later
Yoongi's POV
After four comebacks and two consecutive world tours, I and the boys finally have free time without any cameras to shoot us. Even though we have wandered America numerous times, we never touch this side of the states. So we planned a getaway to this corner of the states and find a deluded place which we could considerably tell that it is safe for us.
Here we go, Malibu. It is already our second days sniffing the fresh ocean air since our beach house was only 2 minutes away from the main shore. We really took our time.
I am doing well, you know. I am getting so much better and I healed faster. But the thoughts of her come crashing by at some moment. She disappeared, with no message left for me. I started to think that she wants to pull an act of revenge to me. She wants me to feel the same way she felt when I left her to Seoul back then. It works, though.
There were also nights where I could barely sleep because I was afraid that she would come to my dream. I missed her so much, I swear. But the fear of waking up knowing that it was all just a dream, scares the fuck out of me. I have the entire bed to myself now, but I still sleep on my side of the bed, like she will return one night to her place, next to me.
I already get used to not being able to see her figure every time I went home. That's why for these past years, I only visit my apartment twice a year and live back in the dorm. I told my brother to fill the apartment and live there because it's still too much for me. I can't see the hall the same way without seeing her figure crunching down trying to fix the doormat in front of our room. I can't see the living room without picturing her laying down munching to M&Ms while watching her favorite Netflix shows. I can't sit on the kitchen stool without seeing her whisking a dough and looking back at me, smiling. God, I can't even imagine going home just to find out there's no more her, waiting for me with an open arm.
It's hard for everyone isn't it? Anyone who says it's easy is a liar. There's this huge divide between me and her ever since because I feel like we're living in such different worlds. God, I don't even know where the hell she is.
But I survived. And here I am.
It's almost midnight with the full moon shining bright leaving the landscape looks in a deep blue color. And there she is, under the blanket of stars hugging herself staring at the ocean while sitting down relaxed and taking a deep breath while closing her eyes. The way I'd wish it wasn't her, but my sight was already get used to hers apart from being separated once again, for so long.
"Y/n." I called out her name, not wanting to startle her. She opens her eyes and looks up to me. Pupils turn larger, slightly surprised.
"Min Yoongi? Oh my God. Come sit here." She throws that smiley face just like the first time we bumped at each other at that coffee house. And so I sit down.
At first, we had so much to catch up on we were talking a hundred words a second, barely even listening to the ends of one another's sentences before moving onto the next. And there was laughing. Lots of laughing. Then the laughing stopped and there was this silence. What the hell was it?
"Listen, y/n. Haven't I told you that the verse I wrote in Make It Right was actually about you?" She squinted her eyes. "What. Wait, really?"
"Yeah. I actually saw you a month before we bumped into each other that morning in the coffee house."
"Really? Why don't you say 'Hi!' already you cow!" She gives a gentle punch on my shoulders.
"I can't even proceed my mind and you're telling me to say Hi? No, not a chance." She's glancing at me for some time. "So that's why I keep coming back to that coffee house in the hope of bumping into you, again. And it works anyway." I said shamelessly.
She just smiled.
In the night when everyone falls asleep, and the color of ocean waves with the stars playing in the sky. We sat down under the sky on white sand that looks dim under the moonlight. I close my eyes calmly. I am floating on small loneliness. Even if I gently close my eyes, she's still shining so brightly.
"Anyway, I never thought that BTS will become even more huge than two years ago. You guys sure did working so hard on it." She continued. "It's really to that point I will hear your music everywhere I go."
"Yeah, we did. Enough speaking about my successful career. What about you? Where were you these past two years?" My turn to ask.
"Here. I got an offer for being the Senior Digital Manager in the regional branch of my company. I said yes right away. It's really a good place to live though." I could only stare at her face without saying anything. "You know what, I just realize that I never went to your concert."
"I could fix that. But we're on breaks right now, so you'd be in a queue for the grand show. You should feel honored because I, himself, who invited you there." She lets out another laugh, giggling with chest rumbling and I did too.
It was like the world stopped turning in that instant. Like everyone around us had disappeared. Like everything at home was forgotten about. It was as if those few minutes on this world were created just for us and all we could do was look at each other. It was like she was seeing my face for the first time.
"You're growing old, Min Yoongi, so well, you surely are." She throws me another giggle, and so I replied. "Well, you too technically. You're 28 now. But age is just a number, not a state of mind or a reason for any type of particular behavior." She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, yeah, Mr. Know-It-All. I wonder if your random knowledge were all still in your head." She shakes her head.
And then I feel as if I'm witnessing a miracle, as ever so slowly she raises her face towards the moon. I watch her drink in the sight, sensing the flood of memories she's unleashed and wanting nothing more than to let her know I'm here. But instead, I stay where I am and stare up at the moon as well. And for the briefest instant, it almost feels like we're together again.
There are memories for both of us, of course, but I've learned that memories can have a physical, almost living presence, and in this, hers and I are different as well. If hers are stars in the nighttime sky, mine are the haunted empty spaces in between.
Part of me aches at the thought of her being so close yet so untouchable, but her story and mine are different now. It wasn't easy for me to accept this simple truth, because there was a time when our stories were the same, but that was eight years, two years, or about two lifetimes ago.
Throughout it all, I loved her as much as I always had, and I found myself aching for those simpler times of the past. I knew what was happening, of course. As we were drifting apart, I was becoming more desperate to save what we once had shared; like a vicious circle, however, my desperation made us drift apart even further.
Our life is made up of time; our days are measured in hours, our pay measured by those hours, our knowledge is measured by years. We grab a few quick minutes in our busy day to have a coffee break. We rush back to our desks, we watch the clock, we live by appointments. And yet your time eventually runs out and you wonder in your heart of hearts if those seconds, minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years and decades were being spent the best way they possibly could. In other words, if you could change anything, would you?
That night I took a conclusion, I wish I could tell her that she can run and run as fast and as far as she like, but the truth is, wherever she runs, there she is. We will eventually bump into each other again and I wonder what God's plan on what's going to happen this time.
Behind the flowing time even if the beautiful nights are blurred, they are not going away. She is not going away. Even if long days have passed and I'm faded in this dream. From the far and distant so many nights with eternity.
In a long dream, we'll be forever.
THE END
