1832
Odette was still sleeping, and Marius was awake beside her. During her sleep, she had slipped off Marius' shoulder, but Marius had caught her and pulled her into his lap. He noticed the darker patch on the shirt Odette was wearing over her stomach. She was bleeding through her bandage and she was extremely pale and cold. Gently, Marius pushed down on the wound and attempted to stop the bleeding with pressure. Marius knew Odette was going to die if she wasn't treated. Somehow, Marius had managed to get the attention of Joly. Joly came over and crouched beside him. Marius carefully pulled his hand back and showed Joly the blood on it as well as Odette's shirt.
"She needs to be stitched up..." Joly observed.
"With what? We have nothing." Marius whispered, obviously worried.
"We can grab some thread and there are bound to be needles in the tavern." Joly explained.
"We're taking her into the tavern? With Javert?" Marius asked.
"Unless you want to do it out here." Joly snapped.
Marius thought about it, looking down at Odette's peaceful face. He brushed some of her blonde curls out of her face and then shook his head at Joly. Carefully, Marius shook Odette awake. Smiling sadly, Marius watched as her unknowing brown eyes fluttered open.
"Odette, you need stitches." Marius whispered.
"No little ease into it?" Odette joked.
The shock was setting in now. Odette giggled a little bit out of nervousness and then the adrenaline began to wear away. Her once peaceful face contorted into one of agony. The agony that allows you to see colours dance and buildings lean, faces blur and dim lights gleam. Tears leaked from Odette's tightly closed eyes, but they didn't make it far down her cheeks before Marius tenderly wiped them away with his thumb.
"Marius." Odette whispered.
"Yes Lottie?" Marius asked softly, cupping her face in his hands.
"I love you." Odette breathed, before all consciousness left her body.
Limply, Odette slumped up against Marius. Marius anxiously tried to wake Odette up and then looked over at Joly, who shared the same worried look. Joly's fingers found the side of Odette's neck.
"She's still alive, but she's running out of time." Joly warned, "Courfeyrac, Combeferre, come with us."
Marius lifted up Odette and adjusted his grip to her, holding her closer to his body, hoping some of his body heat would transfer over to her. He looked over to find Joly, Combeferre and Courfeyrac helping some other students med the barricade, a table pulled out of the side.
"You weakened the barricade?" Marius asked.
"Marius, you love her. She's worth weakening the barricade." Enjolras nodded.
Courfeyrac and Combeferre carried the table inside the tavern while Joly held the door open. Marius quickly took Odette inside too. He placed her down on the table whilst Joly was tearing some material to pull the threads out of it, a needle already being held between his teeth. Marius was too busy worrying about what Odette was going to feel, that he didn't even notice that her eyes were opening.
