TW: Curse word

They all walked to the commons, sitting a great deal of a distance away from each other. There was a silence that clung to them. No one knew how to begin these kind of conversations, especially Virgil.

"I understand that you all may have questions." He spoke slowly, attempting to keep his stuttering to a minimum. "And I don't, don't think I can answer them all."

"Oh, it's fine, Kiddo, just do your best!" Patton said cheerfully. He moved to the couch where Virgil sat and gave him a warm embrace. Virgil nodded.

"I believe I have the first question," Roman said, dragging his hand through his untamed hair. "How do you know my brother?" Virgil breathed in deeply. He hadn't known that Remus was Roman's brother. If he had he would have never moved in. And never being provided Remus' last name didn't help the situation.

"I w-was younger, and I had ra-an away from home. Remus and Diesel found me and took me, me in. That's when things took a-a turn for the worst." He hated how the words seemed to slur together or break apart, but he was so tired.

"Were you ever going to tell us you had powers?" That one came from Logan. And if Virgil was being honest he had considered it once or twice, but in reality he would have never told them. He hated his powers. Despised them.

"No."

Logan nodded. There was a far away look in his eyes. Betrayal, anger, and disappointment rested in those eyes. It only served to make Virgil feel worse.

"Hey, uh , kiddo? What are your powers exactly?" Patton asked. Virgil adored Patton, and vice versa. He just didn't want to manipulate Patton. He already had once, trying to sneak out of the apartment.

"The Illusionist. That's my name, my 'superhero' name anyways. But, I make illusions, basically. I can control what you feel, see, or hear. I'm basically a master manipulator." Virgil sighed. It was easy some days to forget that he had these powers, that they existed.

You're only a manipulator.

He knew.

"The problem is my powers run rampant sometimes. I can't not use them, it'll drive me mad." He whispered that last part. It was something about admitting it that made him feel better. "I have to manipulate people to survive, or I just grow slowly insane. Though, I already feel like I am insane."

You are.

"Show us," Roman demanded. "Do something. Show me why my brother tortured you. Show me so I know you aren't lying." Virgil could see the disbelief in Roman's eyes. The uncertainty. He didn't blame him. His older brother was a maniac, a psycho. And he hadn't known. Virgil seriously doubted if Roman even knew his brother the way a family should, especially since the enormous time gap between them.

"Okay," he muttered. He couldn't anything grand or extravagant. He was too tired. Slowly, he stood and grabbed a bright red apple from their fruit dish. Focusing, he closed his eyes. When he heard an audible gasp from Patton is when he knew he had made the apple purple.

"Oh that's so cool..." Patton muttered, reaching for the apple.

Virgil sighed, handing the apple to Patton. "I'm manipulating you. I'm literally telling your brain that its reality is shit and replacing what you see with what I want you to. I'm evil."

The apple flickered on and off between its perky red to a deep purple before, finally, it became red again.

"I don't think you're evil," Logan said, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "From what I can tell what's inside your head right now, your not evil. You just despise what you have." Logan straightened his tie. "You work for the team Vigilantes, correct?"

Virgil nodded slowly.

They know.

Stop.

"Your 'uncles', as you so put it, are a part of this team as well?"

He nodded again.

"Hmm. Well, what do you accomplish on this team."

Virgil sighed, "We watch you guys, just making sure you don't make a rookie mistake. We've... been using our powers for years. Taking down bigger gangs, and lowly villains who wish to dominate the world. You, on the other hand, just appeared not over a year ago, and we just don't want you all to destroy the very little peace we have here in New York." Virgil pulled his jacket sleeves over his hands. "Your brother is basically an evil mastermind. He tried to... brainwash me into becoming one of them. To become a dark side. Then Remy and Emile found me. They rescued me. Now I help them."

Patton leaned over and kissed Virgil's temple. "I think you should get some rest, Son." Virgil blushed deeply before giving Patton a small hug- who squealed in response- and leaving to go to sleep.

"Bye, Dad."
