As soon as i turned into the hallway my heart nearly gave out when i saw his family standing outside. I nearly collided with someone, i don't know who, but they stopped me.
'Wait!'
I fell to my knees catching a glimpse of him. He was in bad shape and barely awake. His mother sat on his bed weeping and softly speaking to him. She heard my collapse and instantly rushed to help me up.
'What happened? Please tell me he's alright! Is he alright? He's fine, right?' I seek for an answer but all i see is tears.
'He was sleeping calmly for a while...' She narrated 'then all of a sudden, his organs started failing..'
I looked over at him on that bed, half conscious. 'Will he even recognise me?'
'It may take him a while but he will'
I gathered myself and stood up. I wiped away my tears and channel this new found strength onto a smile on my face. I approached the bed.
Immediately i came to his eyesight, a smile broke out on his face.
'Hey'
His voice smooth but low. I can see that he recognized me and is trying so hard not to show weakness.
'Hi'
'You look good!' Complimenting me.
'You too!'
'Yeah the white really brings out my eyes' he laughed. I chuckled.
'I know it's a stupid question but how are you feeling?'
'Great. I might run a marathon tomorrow.'
The mention of "tomorrow" brought tears to my eyes.
'Please don't cry. Please'
'You know you're being selfish, right?'
'I know' he replied.
'You said we were never going to give up'
'I'm sorry'
'I don't need your apology. I need you to get up and let's leave.' I retorted. 'Please!' I let the cry I've been holding back burst.
'Fatima my dear,' his voice hollow, never heard a simultaneously chilling and comforting sound in my life. 'I'm sorry.'
'Don't say that! Just get up and let's leave!' I grabbed violently at the sheets and fumed out.
'I Love You!'
