(Y/N)

The three of you had been swimming for a while until you saw a rather neat sign. It had been carved out of a rock, and the text had been colored in by sea paint. The surface. It was pointing up a mountain. You looked at the others, being a tad confused.

"Don't worry about it, it's really great!" Ereza said, pulling you along. You swam up the mountain before swimming into a tunnel. At first, it was pitch black, making you have to feel the walls as you kept going. Eventually, you arrived in a cave. It was filled with light, but not because of any glowing creatures. Looking up, you realized that there was no actual ceiling. Only a few meters above laid the actual surface. Ereza kept pulling you along towards one of the smooth stone tables. As the three of you sat down, an older-looking woman came up to you. She placed a thin piece of wood before you. On it was different kinds of meals written neatly. Maiya looked over your shoulder.

"I'll take some clams," she said, turning to the woman. She nodded.

"I guess I'll take a crab wrap," Ereza said, not having to look. The woman nodded again before looking at you.

"What is a surface angel?" you asked.

"They are creatures of the surface. They fly around and are rather hard to catch, but very delicious" she answered.

"Would it be alright if I ordered that then..?" you asked a bit unsure. She nodded and left your table, swimming into a small opening covered by seaweed decorated with different colored rocks. It wasn't quiet for long before Maiya began to show off her bag.

"Look at what my boyfriend got me yesterday" she said as she placed a small bag on the table. It had a slightly purple tint.

"Woah.." you and Ereza said, your mouths open in awe.

"It's made entirely by purple triggerfish" Maiya proclaimed proudly.

"But aren't those really expensive?" you asked.

"Hah! My boyfriend doesn't even know that word" she replied.

"Jeez, you're such a pumice baby" Ereza chuckled.

"Oh shush! You get some pretty expensive things too, admit it" Maiya said, putting her bag down. Ereza rolled her eyes playfully.

"Alright, so I might have gotten a little something as well," she said with a wink as she pointed at her hair. In it sat a hairpin. The tip was purple and almost see-through.

"That's a crystal, isn't it?" Maiya asked.

"Yep, can you guess which one?"

"An amethyst right? They're purple" you suggested.

"Ding, ding, ding. Ten points to Y/N!" she said with a chuckle. You held up a fist as a sign of victory.

"Say, has anything happened to you lately then, Y/N?" Maiya asked after a bit. You shook your head.

"Not really. I'm honestly sort of bored. I wish something interesting would happen, you know?" you said with a sigh, resting your arms on the table. A big shadow was cast over the three of you.

"Gah, did it get cloudy all of a sudden?" Maiya asked, looking up. You and Ereza looked as well. Something was moving on the surface, casting the shadow.

"What in the king's name is that..?" Ereza asked. You looked at it for a bit before handing her your bag.

"Hold on, I'm gonna check it out," you said as you began to swim up.

"Y/N hold on! The surface is dangerous, remember!?" Maiya yelled.

"I know! Just watch my bag! I'll be right back!" you yelled back.

"Dummy!"

.

.

What was this thing? You let your hand run over it. It wasn't made out of wood and you had never felt such a rock. Was it an animal? It didn't seem to react to anything you did. You swam around it a few times as it didn't move much. Then you decided to slowly put your head out of the water, making sure your gills remained under. Two creatures stared at you. They were holding onto some sort of ring. They were covered by fur and had horns. One of them had blond hair and a beard and was a lot bigger than the other one. Suddenly, he raised a hand.

"Howdy" he said. You immediately backed off. "No, no! My apologies, child. I did not mean to scare you" he said, holding up his hands in front of himself. You blinked a few times before opening your mouth.

"Are you humans..?" you asked carefully, not being used to speaking out of water. He chuckled, his belly moving up and down as he did.

"No, child. Me and my son Asriel here, are monsters" he answered. The other held up a hand.

"Yo"

"What are you doing here?" you asked.

"We're on vacation" the big one answered.

"Why? Why here, I mean" you asked.

"Well, because the ocean is beautiful, and the air is fresh, don't you think?" he asked. You shook your head.

"I don't know," you said.

"I suppose we're all different. My name is Asgore. What are you yourself doing here? You didn't fall off a boat, I hope" he said.

"Uh, I don't know about that. But I live here" you replied. "Well, not exactly here, but not too far off" you continued.

"Ah, then I get why you don't care too much for the air. If you get it every day, it mustn't be as special" he said. Then he held out one of his furry hands.

"You haven't told me of your own name, young one"

You thought for a bit before swimming closer, slowly lifting your own hand.

"I'm-"

"Asgore, who are you talking to?" someone shouted suddenly. You dove immediately, remaining close to the surface. Through the moving, watery screen, you could see a third face appearing. They were talking, but you couldn't hear what they were saying. Slowly, you raised half of your face out of the water once again. The three immediately stopped talking and looked at you. The third one, a woman it seemed, began to smile softly.

"My, my. I'm very sorry, my child. It seems that I must have scared you" she said, adjusting her clothing as she sat down in the ring, holding out a hand. "My name is Toriel"

You moved closer, gently placing your hand in hers as you rose further out of the water.

"I'm Y/N" you said. She smiled and placed her other hand on yours.

"It is very nice to meet you, Y/N. I hope these two haven't been disturbing you" she said. You shook your head slowly.

"Not at all"

"What a nice young lady you are" she chuckled. "How old are you?"

"I recently turned sixteen" you replied.

"Oh, then you're around the same age as my other son, Kris," she said.

"Oh? Where is he?" you asked.

"He's nearby. I'll call for him" she replied. Then she turned her head and called his name.
