(Kris)
"Kris! Could you come over here?" mom shouted, waking me from a dreamless sleep. I pushed myself up, taking my feet out of the water. "Kris?"
"I'm coming," I said, heading over to the swim ring. I was hearing the voice of my mom and someone else that I didn't recognize. I decided to peek, seeing my mom holding the hand of a girl. The two were chatting before she looked over at me. I tried to hide, but the others had already noticed me.
"C'mon bro, don't be shy now! Come out, she's friendly" Asriel laughed. I sighed and tried to climb over without getting too wet. As I placed a foot on the ring, I slipped and fell headfirst into the water. I let out a gasp, my mouth getting filled with water. I covered it with one hand, trying to get back up. But with my eyes closed, I couldn't tell which way was right. I could only hear the sound of my movements and the bubbles of air which forcefully left my nose. Something was placed on my cheeks. It almost felt like hands, but a lot oilier and not really any fingers. Suddenly the force of the water stopped and I could feel air against my face. I uncovered my mouth and coughed before gasping for air. I slowly opened my eyes, blinking a few times before being able to see clearly. I was presented with the pretty face of a girl. Her e/c eyes were staring right into mine. I could feel my cheeks heat up as the distance closed between us. Her lips were just a centimeter from mine before she grabbed onto my shoulders, pulling me along swiftly through the water. As her hair moved from her face, I noticed two fins where her ears should have been. I heard a faint pop as I was pulled out of the water by a familiar, large hand.
I began to shiver, wrapping my arms around myself.
"Kris, are you alright!?" Dad asked. I gave him a shaky thumbs-up.
"Thank you for helping him, Y/N" mom said, holding both of her hands in her own. The one called Y/N nodded slowly, her face gaining a hint of red. I rubbed my arms, trying to warm up. My teeth were chattering.
"Kris, it is best that you go take a shower and change into some dry clothing" mom said as she let go of Y/N's hands. I nodded and bowed slightly to Y/N before climbing back onto the boat.
"I'm afraid you'll have to meet Kris more properly some other time if that works for you, Y/N" I heard mom say.
"I would love to. You're interesting" she answered. I stepped inside and proceeded to pull my shirt off. Was Y/N a monster too? I was pretty sure human ears didn't look like that, I thought as I let a hand go to my own ear. I shrugged it off. This was just some random girl, it wasn't that important to know.

(Y/N)
You gave them a quick wave before diving, heading back to Maiya and Ereza. They seemed to have been waiting for you to returns as they hadn't yet touched their food, even though it seemed to have arrived a while ago. Maiya had a few closed clams in front of her and Ereza had a wrap of seaweed filled with different kinds of fish. The last dish, which was yours, was made out of a brown cooked creature with rolls of seaweed lying around it.
"Finally, Y/N! I thought for sure our food would get cold before you got back!" Maiya said as she began to force one of the clams open. You scratched your neck.
"Sorry, sorry. I just had a good time" you said, sitting down before being handed your bag.
"Oh really? Did something happen up there?" Ereza asked before taking a bite out of her wrap.
"Yeah! I met people! They called themselves monsters and live on the surface!" you said, ignoring the surface angel for a bit. Ereza almost choked on her food and Maiya dropped her clam which slowly lowered itself to the table.
"Oh, no.," Ereza said.
"What?" you asked.
"Y/N, you idiot! Don't you know it's illegal to converse with the surface beings!?" Maiya yelled, slamming the table with her fist.
"But that rule is only for humans, isn't it?" you asked.
"Well, yeah!" she replied.
"But they weren't human! They didn't even resemble us in the slightest" you said, deciding to keep Kris out of your tale.
"Doesn't matter, Y/N! We haven't lived on the surface for almost a millennium, we can't possibly tell what a surface human must look like by now" Ereza said, putting down her wrap. "Never ever tell anyone this story or talk to them again. Actually, don't even come near them, Y/N. Not only you might get into trouble, but we might be taken as accomplices." she continued. You were quiet for a bit before nodding slowly.
"You're right... thank you for getting my head out of the clam" you said, giving her a small smile. She smiled back.
"I'm glad you understand, Y/N," she said before grabbing her wrap, starting to eat again. Maiya started banging one of the clams against the table. You stared at the surface angel for a bit before tearing its limb off, starting to munch on it. It was good, in a whole other way than usual food.
The three of you went back to chatting of things that probably wouldn't matter, as you usually did, before you took off. Before you split up, Ereza took a good long look at you.
"Remember Y/N. Whatever you saw today, it didn't happen" she said. You smiled and nodded at her.
"What are you talking about? I ate with you two the whole time we were out today" you said, giving her a wink. She smiled back before waving. Then she and Maiya dove to the lower parts of the city. As you were once again on the familiar manta ray, on your way towards the middle, you could only think of one thing.
I'm sorry, Ereza, but I'd rather die young than die of boredom a few centuries later.
