(Y/N)

He went silent.

"What? Did I say something wrong?" you asked. He shook his head.

"Just... be more specific when you say you like someone... some people might get... ideas..." he said, scratching his neck. You realized what he meant and burst out laughing.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry." you got out, wiping beside your eye.

"..."

"Say, we never really had a formal introduction, did we? You just sort of-" you started.

"Yeah, yeah I slipped. I've been teased about it a lot already" he groaned. You held out your hand with a smile.

"Like you already know, my name is Y/N." you said. He took it, making a slight grimace.

"Kris. But you know that too, right?" he asked. You nodded before letting go. Then a sigh escaped your lips.

"I wish I had known you land-livers sleep as well, then I would have come tomorrow instead."

"..why..?" he asked. You blinked a few times.

"Why what?" you asked.

"Why did you even want to come back here to begin with?" he asked. You put a hand into the water around your head, scratching your chin before smiling.

"Because you're all really interesting to me" you chirped. He tilted his head.

"Really..?"

"Yeah! Honestly, I'm always sort of bored with the way we live, but meeting you was so exciting I just had to come back!" you said, your smile widening.

"Oh..." he seemed to be a bit uncomfortable, rubbing his legs with his hands. Your gaze landed on them.

"Can I look at one of your hands, Kris?" you asked. He froze before holding up his hand in front of his face. He hesitated but eventually held it out to you. You took it in both of yours, examining it.

His skin felt a lot different from yours. It was disgustingly dry, but soft and warm. His fingers were a little longer than yours with longer nails that seemed to be a lot cleaner. They weren't webbed together either. You held it closer. His hand smelled really good. A mild kind of sweet. You licked it.

Kris immediately pulled his hand back, staring at you like you were crazy.

"W-what was that for!?" he asked. You made a grimace.

"You sort of smelled good, so I got curious. But you taste worse than rotten seaweed!" you whined, sticking out your tongue. He rubbed his hand, seeming even more uncomfortable than earlier. "..uh.. you want to see my hand..?" you asked, holding it out.

"I've already seen it," he said. But he took it anyways. The first thing he checked was the web between your fingers, something that was probably one of the biggest differences between your hands. He pinched it a bit. "Do you feel anything..?" he asked. You shook your head.

"I don't feel anything in it. Unless you pull it since my fingers feel. Duh" you answered. He nodded, remaining silent. He decided to hold your hand closer to his face, immediately turning his head away as he pinched his nose.

"Ew! I'm sorry to tell you this, but you smell awful..." he said. You held your other hand up to your nose, sniffing it. It didn't smell like anything in particular.

"Are you sure? I think I smell just fine" you said.

"Yuck..."

"You're so mean!" you pouted, pulling back your hand to cross them both over your chest. He scratched the back of his head.

"Sorry.."

"Oh! No, I was just joking, Kris! It wouldn't surprise me if something smelled bad to you but fine to me. My people generally don't have a great sense of smell" you said, holding your hands up in front of you. He nodded silently. "... Anyways! I suppose I should head home. I don't want to keep you up. Oh! And sorry if I woke you, to begin with!" you apologized. He shook his head.

"It's fine..." he said. You gave him a smile and got to your feet. "Hey... are you... in a rush..?" he asked. You stood for a moment, thinking.

"No, I don't think so. Why?" you asked.

"Could you stay a little while longer..? I don't feel like sleeping yet.." he said. You smiled and sat back down.

"Sure! I don't feel like going home yet anyways" you replied. It was quiet for a bit. Kris was the first one to break the silence.

"Say... what's it like where you live..?" he asked, seeming to feel a bit awkward about asking.

"Hm... nothing special. I live in a city with buildings either made of stone, smaller rocks put together and even some in coral. Oh! But the castle has some sort of crystal in it" you said.

"There's a castle?" he asked.

"Yeah, of course! Where else would our king stay?" you answered.

"Heh... I...guess you got me there, huh?" he said, scratching his neck with a slight smile.

"There's the wall of Gigantea, of course! I shouldn't forget to tell you about that!" you said. He gave you a nod to show he was listening.

"Sounds interesting," he said. You smiled, feeling rather proud to be the subject of his interest.

"Now, tell me about where you live!" you said, placing your hands in your lap. He hummed slightly.

"Well... it's dry... and... big... with a lot of houses. Some are made of wood, bricks and... other things." he said.

"How do they look?" you asked. He leaned a big from side to side before shrugging.

"I can't really explain that well..." he sighed.

"Ah... w-well tell me something else then!" you said, leaning forward.

"Mh... we live with a race called monsters, who have the ability to use magic," he said. You held up a hand.

"H-hold on. You mean humans up here can't use magic!?" you asked. He blinked rapidly a few times.

"You mean you can?" he asked. Then he brought his hand to his chin. "Though I suppose I should have known... water doesn't do that on its own..."

"Huh? You mean how it shouldn't be staying around my head like this?" you asked.

"Yeah... are you doing that with your magic?" he asked. You nodded.

"I can't breathe up here as you do, so I found another way to be up here," you said with a smile.

"Is that the reason you're a bit slimy as well?" he asked. You shrugged.

"I didn't do anything about that so I suppose I was just born like that" you answered, moving a bit as your skin started to feel itchy. "And because of it, I think I need to leave soon," you said, scratching your arm.

"C-can't you stay a little while longer..?" he asked.

"I think I've already stayed too long," you said. He looked down.

"I don't...-"

"You don't want to sleep, huh?" you said with a slight smile. He looked up as you put your index finger against his forehead. "I'll help you this time. Thanks for talking with me this late" you said with a gentle smile as you let a small surge of magic through your fingertip. His body froze before he slowly began to fall forward. You caught him, gently laying him down on the floor. His head turned to the side. You ran your fingers through his hair before getting to your feet, diving back into the water.
