I only stood there for three minutes before I decided to leave and find Cole. I didn't know much about him, but I knew that he wasn't the type of person who went to parties to relieve himself, so I decided to settle with finding his room.

The problem was, he was the Chief Elder's son, so he lived in the City Pointe. There would be hundreds of Males crawling around- sick perverts who were filthy rich and important. There would also be many Advisors guarding every corner and every hallway. It would be impossible to find out where Cole's room was, especially as a Female.

But I need to find him.

The Advisors guarding the door block my way out of the Pre Pairing building. The only other way out is the courtyard, but I can't go that way.

"Excuse me." I say politely. "My Pair instructed me to enter his room."

The Advisors don't move. "A scrawny little incompotent like you would not have an important Pair." One of them says in a gruff voice.

I narrow my eyes at them. "Excuse me, Gilbert Houghson. My name is Maddilyn Carter and my Pair is Cole Harborson. Now, I advise you to move aside before I tell my Pair that you and your comrades were the reason for why I was late."

The Advisor's eyes widen. "No, please don't tell him! You can pass, you can pass!"

I roll my eyes and walk out the door.

Once they are gone, I let out a gasp of surprise. I can't believe that they fell for my act!

The hallway is not empty, so I must not show my lack of confidence. There is a group of Advisors- perhaps five - patrolling this hallway, and they stop me once they see me.

"What are you doing in the hallway, all alone?" One of them says harshly. They are tall men, and they loom over me. I've always been shorter than most of the other girls my age, always shorter, always skinnier, always the least pretty, but I never thought much of it. Now, facing these Males, I find myself wishing I was taller.

I force myself to look up at them. I smile brightly. "I am meeting my Pair, Cole Harborson, in his room. I would advise you to send me there before he finds out you are the reason I am late."

The other Advisors seem taken aback by my bright, confident act. The lead Advisor narrows his eyes suspiciously. "You look too young to have a Pair." He hisses. "What are you, a Thirteen, Fourteen?"

I smile at them, even though my heart is pounding and I am offended by his estimates. "I am Maddilyn Carter, a Sixteen." The Advisor peers at me closely. After a while, he relents. "Very well." They lead me to the end of a hallway, where a metal door stands. I expect them to open the doorknob, but there is no doorknob. The Advisor scans his ID and the door slides open and a small room is revealed. The Advisors usher me inside. My heart beat goes faster. What is this tiny room? Where are they taking me?

There is a series of buttons, numbered from 1-40. I stare at them in surprise. Is this where they pull out masks and gas me? The Advisor presses the 39th button.
