Chris wrapped his arms securely around my shoulders, making sure I was glued to his firm chest. His warmth brought a flutter to my heart, easing the pounding headache that's been pestering me all evening. Enfolded in our blanket, I silently listened to the rhythm of his uneven heartbeats. I closed my eyes, now listening to his steady breaths before drifting off into a peaceful sleep.

I had surprisingly slept in late the next morning, thus missing my chance to see Chris off. He's been nothing but supportive since that traumatic event and I felt guilty not giving him anything in return. I needed to show him that I was capable of being a loving and supportive wife. Work is important to him so I will have to respect that. In an instant, an appealing idea popped into mind. I was going to pack him a nice homecooked lunch and deliver it to his office.

I decided to wear something a little sexy, but professional. The stunning navy blue, crop top and matching sheath skirt clung to my voluptuous curves. I paired them with some cork heel sandals and showcased my beautiful moon necklace. Giving myself an approving nod, I strode my way to the kitchen and began preparing Chris' favourite meal – Chicken Tikka Masala. We were both obsessed with curries and its rich flavour, so he would definitely appreciate my surprise visit.

I skilfully added green chillies for garnish as the curry simmered. Damn it, my mouth was already watering.

"Fuck, what smells good?" Noah whined as he materialised from the living room.

"I'm cooking Chris a curry for lunch," I state matter-of-factly, intently focusing on chopping the coriander.

"What about me? You're just gonna let me starve?" He crossed his arms and snickered. Something was unusual about his altered attitude, demonstrating a hint of bitterness.

"Order a pizza."

"I'd much rather order you," he purred, placing both of his arms on each side of the counter, trapping me between them.

"You really need to stop with the inappropriate jokes," I hissed, chopping a little too closely to his fingers.

"Who said I was joking?" He teased, brushing himself further against my behind. I came to a halt, loosening my grip on the knife.

"Noah, seriously."

"Damn... I love the way my name rolls off your tongue."

"Argh!" I let out a sigh of frustration and turned to face him, only to reach a demise.

He instantly rested both hands on my waist and planted a couple of kisses on my forehead. I swallowed the lump in my throat, desperately trying to calm my own nerves. I returned his eyes with a loathsome glare, then turned around and threw the coriander into the simmering curry. He chuckled, seeming pleased by my aloof reaction.

"I don't have time for your childish games."

"You need to have some fun in your life, love."

"Yeah, whatever," I dismiss him, carefully stirring the pot.

His lips grazed my ears, drawing my concentration away for a minute. "Come find me when you're ready to explore that feeling... Or stay here like his caged, obedient bird." His raspy voice resonated within, the sting of his words poisoned my mind. I blinked twice, realising he wasn't in the room anymore.

He's wrong! I'm not a caged bird! Chris is only trying to protect and shower me with everything I could ever want. I can't let that convict get inside of my head. Today is supposed to be a good one, so I won't allow his manipulation to impact otherwise. Inhaling a breath of reassurance, I packed Chris' lunch neatly and attached a note which read 'I love you' to it. Sure, it was cheesy. But I knew this small gesture would put a smile on his perfect face. Dusting any stray crumbs off my clothes, I set out on a journey to Chris' firm.
