As he crouched in the shadows of an access door, the stocky human aimed his crossbow, vengfully at an naive vampire girl.
She kept changing between her human form and her beast form: her dark hair and pixie like face softly smiling down at the street, her teeth perfect white squares. Her hair loosing its pigment changing to an almost translucent white, her fingernails grew to clear points, showing her young age, her once green eyes changed to a black abyss and her teeth became jagged.
All of a sudden, the wind changed directions, causing the young man's scent to be carried straight toward her. Her long dark hair blew in the wind and her pale, pixy like face grew concerned. As her glowing emerald eyes darted toward him, He released the arrow.
Instantaneously she transformed and jumped out of the way, at that same moment an extremely tall, fully transformed male vampire appeared catching the arrow. His age showed in his silvery hair, and black fingernails. Which were almost an inch long with blood dripping from the ends, his eyes were black, and his teeth were pearl white and pointed like a shark. He flipped the arrow and threw it into the young man's left thigh. The force of the blow sent the human knocking into the access door to the building they were on. He grabbed the arrow trying to stabilize it when the vampire said, "I understand you people don't train your own properly, but you should think twice before attacking, because where there is a kid there will always be a parent" His voice seemed to float in cold wisps on the air. The human steadied himself before pulling out the arrow, his leg burning from the rose oils on the arrow, but he couldn't show weakness, even though the smell of blood made him want to gag. "So what are you gonna do now parasite?", the human spat, trying to think of a way out."I'm going to be generous and let you live, be happy you didn't meet my wife", the lanky vampire straightened and grabbed his scared daughters hand, then with a blink they were gone. An older man stepped out of the shadows, holstering a gun. His brown eyes bore angrily into the younger human as he reached into his coat and pulled out some gauze.
"You’re lucky, you know." he said as he tied the gauze around the younger human's leg. " He could have ripped you to shreds, I honestly don't know why he didn't. Caleb, how many times do I have to tell you... vampires are extremely protective of their young."
"And that wasn’t just any vampire" a balding, heavyset man said from a rooftop near them. He climbed onto their roof while the first man finished patching the younger one up. "Bro...You realize that was one of the berserker twins. You know, the vampires who took down David's whole hunting party", the balding man said with sadness layering his voice for his fallen friend.
"I remember something about that, but I wasn't a hunter yet though.", Caleb stated curiously."I'll tell you all about it when we get back, it's not safe in the open like this," the first man said, as he started for the fire escape.
Once they were all on the ground the men ducked down alleys. "J...Do you know who the girl was?", Caleb asked limping behind the older men."No, I only recognized him because of his lanky frame." The balding man started laughing, "The other twin would have put that arrow through your eye, then took your head as a trophy."
Caleb's mouth flew open in shock, "How do you find that funny?"
The burly broth smirked, "It's funny cause only you are lucky enough to run into the short haired twin, the most forgiving vampire. Forget his twin, any other vampire parent would have killed you."
After a few hours they made it back to their base on the edge of Grants Pass, from the outside it looked like an abandoned building on the outside but the inside was surprisingly nice.
"Okay so what's the whole story?" Caleb asked once they were inside.
"Well about 20 years ago, our friend and mentor David and a few of his hunting buddies were out combing the woods when they happened upon a cabin. Turned out this cabin was owned by none other than the infamous Berserker Twins. They lived there with their mates and even a young vampire girl. The girl had dark hair and was probably 14 or 15 when she was changed. Anyway the short haired twin caught them, chased them off and threatened them, similar to you tonight. It made David and his group furious, so they decided to go back the next day and kill the whole family. But when they went back the only one home was the girl, so they killed her out of spite. When the twins returned they hunted down everyone of David's hunting party for revenge." J explained plopping down on the couch, "That's why we never go after the young ones.""So, if this dude and his brother killed a bunch of your friends, why didn't we take him out?" Caleb exclaimed.
"Caleb it's not like that, we have rules to keep us safe. The top of that list is don't start a fight you can't win, we weren't prepared to run into an ancient vampire tonight.” Js brother explained as he raided the frigid, "The stuff we had tonight wouldn't have even slowed someone like him down."
"Ancient?" He inquired."Super old vampires, they are nearly invincible."
"There must be some way to kill them?"
"Ya, but we have a bigger problem. That girl Syalis was protecting, I am almost positive it was your daughter" the man stated from the kitchen looking at J.
"Wait! How in the world would that young vampire be J's daughter? I thought they were completely out of this?" Caleb questioned.
"The other day when we went home, we were going to have a small party, my daughter loved nature so she wasn't going to be home till late, but the later it got the more worried I became. Midnight hit and she still wasn't home so we went out looking for her. All we found was lots of blood and mountain lion prints." He finished unable to stop the tears from falling down his face. "And now they've turned her into a monster" he pulled a small photo out of his wallet, it was the vampire girl but her skin was less pale and her eyes though still green didn't glow.
"That is her. I am a hundred percent sure,” Caleb said, sitting down next to J."So, what do you want to do, usually if one of our own gets turned we hunt them down", the brother asked J.
"Ky...You’re right the thought of my beautiful little girl running around as one of those soulless monsters is killing me. But we can't do what David and his buddies did, we need to plan."
