Corry went to the dorms to comfort Alex while Serenity continued on toward town, after hunting she laid down in her favorite spot on the top of the highest building. She hummed an old lullaby while she watched the stars.
"And here I thought I was the only one who hid up here", an unfamiliar male voice stated. Serenity was on her feet in an instant transforming on instinct. The vampire stood on the edge of the roof his pale toes curled over the edge his shaggy white hair wildly blowing in the wind, his wide crimson eyes strained on the stars. "Sorry for startling you… that was not my intention.", he said his red eyes meeting her black ones.
"No… it's my mistake.", she frowned transforming back to normal. "I heard you come up, but I assumed you were my cousin."
He gave her a reserved smile before looking back to the stars, "Not you cousin. Thank God.", his ageless face breaking into its first true smile, as he wagged his eyebrows suggestively.
Her phone alarm went off signaling her to go back to school so she wouldn't be locked out. Snoozing the alarm she turned back to the odd boy. "Anyway I have to go, but maybe we could meet up again, I'm Ren."
He didn't respond to her as he watched the stars. Not wanting to be locked out, she turned running down building and back to her dorm.
As she left, the white haired boy watched her run across the roofs out of ear shot, "Goodbye fearless pixie."
When Serenity got home she was surprised to find Jade already asleep, must not have had a party to go to for once. Serenity sat on her bed melting marbles and practicing for the test the next day; but her heart wasn't in it the weird boy had gotten under her skin. He had barely spoken, but his red eyes had Serenity curious and unnerved, she had never seen a vampire like that.
With a growl she threw the marbles on the floor collapsing into her soft pillows, and falling into a restless sleep. Her sleep was short lived when Headmistress Flowers, knocked on the door waking up both girls. Serenity stumbled over the marbles evaporating them as she opened the door. Flowers was in silk pajamas instead of her usual sundress, and she was closely followed by Liam, who was half asleep as he glared at her with confusion layering his eyes.
"What's going on?", Jade yawned her honey blond hair sticking up in all directions.
"It's about your family ...but", the Headmistress paused awkwardly looking at Jade, "Could you give us a moment please?".
"No.", Liam stated sitting on the edge of Jade's bed, "She has been part of our family longer than we have. Anything goes on with our family, she will be one of the first people to know."
"Very well… Syalis and Sean came by a few months ago, they told me that they thought they might be being hunted by local hunters. They told me not to tell anyone because they didn't want you to worry, but I'm afraid the worst has happened. Captain James just called and he told me they were burned…. I'm so sorry.", sadness was evident on Flowers face she had truly cared about the mischievous twins, their children's faces sat unmoved in shock.
"I knew something was watching.", Serenity whispered fidgeting with her diamond necklace.
Liam had Jade pulled into his arms her bloody tears running down his pale chest as she wept silently. Liam's face was expressionless but his pupils had expanded over his eyes as he grew angry. "What are we supposed to do now?", he whispered, barely able to contain his anger.
"I should have told you… I'm sorry.", Flowers repeated, "You have a Grandfather, I knew him a long time ago.", she paused as three pairs of eyes flashed to her. "Your parents never told you about him? Jewel is a bit eccentric, but he is a genius… helped me create the school. I'll see what I can do to contact him"
