When Serenity reached the room Jade was already using the bath. The bedroom was set up like a hotel with two single beds in the middle with dressers and nightstands for them to keep their personal items.
On Jade's side were framed pictures of her and her family, or her many pets. Her stuffed animals covered every inch of her dresser, making Serenity's side look plain in comparison. A few pictures of Liam and her wrestling with their dads all four of them covered mud, tacked onto her headboard, her phone and unfinished homework scattered across the dresser.
Hopping through the window she sat on the no rail balcony, the dorms hung into the ravine under the main building, entirely made of stone and multiple stairways creating a treacherous walkway connecting all the rooms.
Transforming she used her fingernail to cut off the plastic glove, most of the muscles had grown back leaving her hand looking rather grotesque, some spots had completely healed while some of her fingers still lacked a few layers of skin. The blood covered most of her arms and torso but that didn't bother her much, vampire blood didn't have the drug like effect human blood had.
Having humans around made it hard to concentrate on any task, it was like the worst drug or best food. Go to long without and it becomes your only consuming thought, drink too much and you become tired and sluggish.
After 30 minutes of enjoying the cold wind whipping through the valley, Jade stuck her head out the window in only a towel to letting know the bath was open for her. Getting into the bathroom she got the first real look at herself in the mirror, the blood had even gotten knarled into her hair and streaked across her face.
Once she was out of the shower Jade and Serenity decided to go shopping in Vancouver while they waited for the farmers market to get busy. They went to the nearest mall and found some nice clothes, also stopping by an electronics shop to get Serenity a tablet Jade fawning over some of the smartwatches.
Once the human school let out the Mall became crowded and they were forced to leave, due to the sheer amount of warm bodies. Getting back to the dorms they unpacked their new clothes and relaxed.
As soon as she finished Serenity called her mom, she picked up after only one ring. "Hey honey can I call you back tonight?", She looked kinda disheveled with twigs in her hair and her makup smuged down one cheek.
"What's going on? Is everything okay?", I began worrying.
"Well that's what we are trying to figure out I'll call around 1 when you're in the dorms for the night.", She said quickly before hanging up.
Jade walked out of the bathroom in a black long sleeved sparkly romper and her makeup done," is everything ok with the family?", She asked seeing Serenity's somber expression.
"Probably, I've just never seen my mom that anxious before.", she stated, putting her tablet in the nightstand, "Don't Tell Liam I don't want him to worry. She said she would call back tonight after lock in, I will let him know then."
"Okay but you better get ready we haven't really been able to really party sense we got here and the new club opening in the market tonight is going to be the party of the year.", She stated hotly, sitting on her bed to better face her sheltered friend.
After a few seconds of her glaring Serenity picked out a green minidress and headed to the bathroom. The dress was fitted and had long sleeves with a plunging neck to show her teardrop diamond her mom had given her for her first birthday, the skirt ended mid thigh revealing her long pale legs. Throwing on some lipstick and mascara, Jade and Serenity went to meet up with everyone in the main hall.
Alex and Liam were already waiting for them, the perfect mix of snow and rain. Alex was wearing a simple black silk shirt and fitted jeans while Liam went all out in a silver button up and tie but was also wearing jeans.
The boys seemed shocked at first glance at the girls, but surprise quickly turned to smiles as they approached. "Corry said she would meet us at the club she is trying to talk her roommate into going to the party not just to hunt.", Liam shrugged, "Her loss. I'm so excited!" He couldn't seem to keep the goofy smile off his face.
As they all ran barefoot toward town, they talked excitedly about the evening, Serenity's mom almost completely forgotten about for now. As usual they got in with ease the boys heading straight to the dance floor while Jade and Serenity went to get drinks.
Ordering drinks they scanned the club looking for an easy target. Alex and Liam were mid meal sharing some slutty looking college girl, the girl almost completely lifeless. They weren't the only vampires taking advantage of the drunk humans though, to a human eye there were couples everywhere sucking neck and making out. But take a closer look and the mass buffet was in full swing, mostly second years.
Finishing her glass in one drink Serenity dragged Jade out to the middle of the now crowded dance floor. Before the first song even finished a couple of guys had gotten into the less than favorable spot between the two of them. Before the men knew what was happening they had them in the shadows of the upper floor balcony, enjoying the copper taste of blood mixed with alcohol. After they disposed of them, Jade and Serenity headed back to the dancefloor to search for the boys.
After 30 min of being jostled around they gave up the search and decided to call them. Jade pulled out her phone, "Hey where are you?", She yelled over the noise. "Oh... Okay we will meet you there." Hanging up the phone she turned back to her friend, "They are outside, Corry just got here she couldn't talk Chloe into coming."
"Have you ever met her?", Serenity asked as they pushed through the crowd.
"No... Now that you mention it, I haven't even heard anything about Chloe except her name just now on the phone.", she said opening the door to the alley. They followed the alleyway until they found Corry and the boys in a narrow path between 2 large brick buildings.
"Hey sorry I stole the boys, I went hunting with Chloe before I came to party." She said, her red halter top dress showing her full Hispanic curves the skirt flowed past her knee; but the paper thin fabric floated in the breeze, as she danced over to them. Linking arms with Jade and Serenity she let out an excited squeal, "Let's get this party started!"
"Well...! It's almost 10 so that leaves us 2 hours to get drunk and stumble home.", Jade said checking her watch with a grin.
Alex scrunched his forehead skeptically, "Won't the teachers be a bit mad if we go back drunk?".
"They can be mad, but it's not against the rules so we won't get into any trouble.", Corry said giving Alex a flirty grin, fluttering her wide golden eyes.
"Don't kill, don't expose us, don't die and be home before 12.", Liam joked opening the door so the girls could go through. The ground floor was packed wall-to-wall with humans, as they began pushing through Jade's brother approached Liam.
"All the students have VIP on the top floor.", He yelled over the music, motioning toward the stairs. As promised when they reached the stairs to the third floor the group found two more bouncers guarding the stairs.
As they passed one nodded slightly but seemed more concerned with the humans trying to sneak past. One human even tried to follow them through, but was easily grabbed and thrown back into the crowd by one of the guards.
The third floor was simple but eloquent, tall tables were scattered around the edges of the room the dancefloor held a few second year couples grinding to the music, laughing and singing.
As they joined the other people on the dance floor time slipped away and all to soon one of the bouncers yelled through the club it was thirty minutes until midnight and last call for all the students.
When they regrouped outside Serenity's head was spinning from all the shots they had downed, but Corry seemed much worse off half walking half being carried by Alex. The rain didn't seem to bother her as she threw her head back laughing snapping her teeth at the droplets of water, as he struggled to make her walk forward laughing, all of his shyness gone as they played with his rain.
Once they had stumbled to the school earning they many glares, some from teachers, but mostly it was the other first year students jealous they weren't invited. Jade was friends were most second years so they always invited her to their parties, and by default any of her friends were usually invited as well, not to mention her brother.
As they got to their room Jade muttered something about drowning herself in the bath. Serenity throwing herself on her bed just as the last traces of boozy fog faded. Suddenly a loud splashing noise came from the bathroom, curious Serenity peeked in the door to find Jade pouting in the stone tub. "I hate them..", she snarled looking down at the water, "Humans are lucky they get drunk, party and forget their problems for hours or even days, 30 minutes after vampires stop drinking and the venom in our blood burns away the alcohol.", she huffed motioning for Serenity to join her in the massive tub.
Stripping down she got into the tub laughing, "But a human would have to be plastered to have the confidence we have to not think twice about their sexuality…"
Jade's eyes glazed over for a moment, "I hope everything is okay with Vicky, and the rest of your family."
"Me to.", Serenity's eyes filled with bloody tears, "Me to."
Victoria called exactly at one like she had said. She had gotten cleaned up but still looked tired as facetime froze Serenity couldn't understand what she was saying. Getting flustered she hung up before receiving a text, "Everything is fine... your dad is just paranoid so we are moving early… sorry about the bad connection I love you honey."
Both girls let out a sigh of relief, "Okay… Love you too Mom, and Jade sends her best"
Jade flipped over making herself comfy in Serenity's pillows, "I suppose we should have guessed…. If it was serious my mom would have called all of us kids."
"All of you?", Serenity questioned not looking up from her tablet.
Jade laughed nervously, "Ya my parents have sired eight of us but other then, my youngest brother and oldest sister none of us are close.", she shook her short hair out of her eyes, "We should let Liam know what happened."
Her father's grin flashed across Serenity's face, "What's going on with you and my cousin"
Jade's icy eyes bulged, "It's not like that… he has just always been nice… A-And he helped me last summer when I was having issues with my ability.", she stuttered, nervously.
"Hmmm", Serenity's smirk never faltering. "I'll let him know tomorrow… or you could text him."
"Grr… or you could mind your own business.", Jade laughed jumping to her own bed where a possum was currently napping.
The school year passed quickly for Serenity and Liam training and studying, continuously being pulled to one party or another by Jade. Before they knew it the finals were on them.
The sun was just beginning to set on the forest training grounds, as the first years snuck through the shadows waiting for the battle to begin. Suddenly Jade darted across a clearing her blond hair making her shine like a beacon, running away from Tiny wielding his broadsword. He stabbed it into the ground, like waves on the ocean, the ground ripped itself apart throwing the small girl through the air. She produced a sound not much different from a bird in distress, suddenly a giant hawk swooped down snatching her out of mid air, the girl let out a victorious howl followed by her songlike laugh as the black hawk flew into the distance her tiny arm secured in its talons.
The man smiled as he watched the shadow disappear into the darkness, “Pass, 10 more to go”. He then disappeared into the shadows drifting through the forest waiting for his students to make a mistake. Slowly the temperature began to drop and snow began to fall not from the sky but from one of the tallest trees. Suddenly the air began to syclone around Tiny dislodging the trees and debris rendering him completely blind and deaf, the man grabbed his sword and blindly struck the tree cutting it in half. Revealing the source of the storm as Liam and Alex began to fall through the air, Alex shot a geyser of steaming water at the ground to cushion his fall. The other one fell to the ground landing in a full sprint used his hands to freeze the ground around him making it impossible for anyone to chase after him, he disappeared into the forest. Meanwhile Alex safely landed on the ground, but before he could make a move the large man had him pinned to the ground with his sword pointed at his throat.
The boy”s black eyes widened in fear, his translucent form doused in water, shook as he stared up at the man as if waiting to be finished off. Alex… Fail go hunt then meet in the classroom by midnight.”, the man stated gruffly sheathing his sword. “If you see Jade or Liam let them know that they can go eat and they have the rest of the night off cause they passed.”
Alex slammed his arms on the ground enraged, “That’s such bullcrap! Tiny you can’t do this....”, he snarled his shark like teeth gleaming.
“Enough!” , Tiny's voice echoed through the trees. Alex’s face went from its translucent color to a deathly pale and his eyes changed to a startling blue. Tiny lowered his voice to a meer whisper, “If I hear one more thing you can forget going hunting and I’ll have you writing lines till noon tomorrow.”
“Y-Yes sir.”,Alex returned to his translucent state before getting up and running into the woods.
“7 more to go” Tiny muttered as he continued creeping through the woods, waiting for his class to reveal themselves. Suddenly Serenity and Corry burst out of the woods Serenity had her long brown hair pulled back revealing her athletic stature, while the Corrys flew in waves around her concealing most of her body. Both girls charged past him dropping marbles at his feet, he covered his face just in time before half the marbles exploded while the other half began zipping back and forth trying to hit their mark. But even though they were faster than bullets, Brock was like lightning using his sword to bat them away and fling them in the direction of the two girls as they ran off. They almost escaped when one of the marbles hit Serenity in the back of the thigh knocking her leg out from under her, and throwing her to the ground.
“Corry!”, She called to her friend for help.
“Ren…!”, Corry realizing her friends delema,”Brace yourself, I’m gonna throw you to safety.
“No you can’t face him alone.”, Serenity pleaded from the ground.
“To bad.”, Corry growled through her pointed teeth, right before flinging her arms out to Serenity then out toward the forest. She flew through the air kicking and cussing Corry, but that didn’t phase her. As soon as Serenity was out of sight she turned her attention toward Tiny. “Get lost!”, she screamed as she threw her arms out toward him. He flew backward through the air and by the time he looked up Corry had disappeared after her friend.
Brock pulled out his phone, finding Serenity’s number he called her, she answered after only one ring.
“Yes”, she answered hottily.
“You both passed I’m coming to find you so I can help get the marble out of your leg.”, he stated scanning the forest for other students. The phone hung up and he headed to where he could hear. Serenity berating Corry for throwing her randomly into the forest. “You might want to save your breath for me pulling that marble out of your leg.”, Tiny chuckled evilly.
Serenity transformed her eyes changing to an emerald green. “Do it.”, her deep eyes looked scared but determined. She was half lying half sitting on the ground sparse amounts of blood dripped through her fingers as she clutched her leg.
Tiny got the marble out of her leg rather easily with a pocket knife, while Serenity growled in pain. Once the marble was gone Serenity’s leg healed almost instantly. “ Now, you passed Ren; but Kate, you not only passed but also you went back for your friend when you could have just run away.”, he stood up, putting his hand on the hilt of his sword. “For that you get to skip the test I'm giving out tomorrow. Now go feed I’ll see you both in class tomorrow.”
Serenity and Corry darted into the forest toward the glow of the city lights just visible over the trees, promising bountiful amounts of warm bodies and for all the students and teachers.
