"You’re late!"

Sara came around the corner of the kitchen wall and gave me her famous, 'you better have a good reason' look. I couldn’t help but laugh but that didn’t hide the weird feeling I had from earlier,

"Corrin, what’s wrong? Did something happen while you were out."

"No ma'am, just a little tired. So, what’s for dinner?"

There was no way I could ever tell her of my weird feeling or the shadow figure. If I did tell her I would be put on lock down for a month till she knew everything was completely clear. She was a very good protector and care taker but I am a shifter and I am well trained, I feel as though I don’t need a baby sitter all the time that’s on my back.

"Well since it’s your birthday I made your favorite my little cub, a nice big steak and an all chocolate cake!"

"Ok one, please stop calling me that and two, thanks Sara you’re the best."

"Isn’t that what I’m here for?"

Sara started to giggle as she handed me my plate of food. It looked completely amazing! I was so hungry though that a bug would probably look amazing by then. I started to dig in as soon as the plate hit the table that is until I heard it, a howl. With the same reaction we just froze.

"Sara, what is that? We don’t have wolves on this mountain."

"Corrin stay here and stay hidden for me please. No questions or fighting, just listen!"

"Yes ma'am, but is it a shifter. You don’t think they found us after this long do you?"

She must have heard the panic or the tremble in my voice because she walked over to me and hugged me and whispered to me.

"Don’t worry Corrin, it can’t be a shifter. The wolf project was cut and never to be remade because of Zero. Now go upstairs and hide and Im going to go look around, don’t come out."

I nodded and ran upstairs still scared of what it could be. I heard Sara pick up her shot gun and walk outside, after that there was just silence for a bit and then I heard the front door open again. The footsteps from down stairs started to make their way up and I braised myself. I have always been trained to fight but I have never really fought before. Panic filled me with fear and I felt alone and scared. Wolves are strong in a pack and I'm still just a cub, I couldn’t help but to panic.
The door began to open and I prepared myself to shift to my wolf if I needed to, but I didn’t. Sara walked in with a smile on her face saying it was nothing and must have been a fox or something or maybe just a lone wolf running by that picked up my sent.

"You’re alight Corrin, calm down. Would you like to come finish your meal?"

"No ma'am, I’ll eat it tomorrow. I'm just going to go ahead and go to sleep now."

"If that’s what you would like. Goodnight Corrin, sweet dreams."

"Goodnight, and thank you again."

Sara walked over and kissed my forehead and walked out the room shutting the light off. She told me everything was fine and safe so why was it that I still had the tight feeling in my chest. Why was it I wanted to shift and take a bonding leap out my window to the forest line and search for that noise?

"What is wrong with me?"
