Denki sat on the train talking with Kendo. They talked about their dreams and their goals and basically everything he talks about with Kyoka. Speaking of her... he looked past Kendo's shoulder for a moment. She looked so lonely, looking out the window, quietly waiting for the end. "What's wrong with her, I thought she'd be in the conversation..." Denki sat up straighter as he realized what was going on. "It's BECAUSE I'm not giving her the talk I usually give her... maybe I'll talk to her after the ride." Kendo stood up. "Welp, this is my stop. I guess I'll see you later, Kaminari." She smiled. "You too, Kyouka." Kyouka looked up and smiled and waved. A fake smile. But Kendo didn't seem to notice and left.

As the train left the station, Denki looked at Kyouka, who had gone back to staring outside. The dying sun shined off her face, the beautiful colors of the sunset refining her features. For a moment, Denki's heart stopped and his breathing slowed down. "She looks so beautiful, it's amazing," Denki thought in awe, "Jirou looks like an angel, has she always looked like this?" . He noticed everything; her slim body, her sharp but regal facial features, her short cut hair, and for  a moment, she seemed perfect to him. "Kaminari?" Denki snapped back into reality. "Are you okay, Kaminari? You've been staring at me for a while now." Kyouka informed him, smirking. Denki's face heated up in embarrassment. "Sorry, I spaced out for a while. Didn't get much sleep y'know?" Denki replied, giving her a sheepy smile. "With a side of drooling I see," Kyouka laughed. "You're not one to stare at a person who people consider mediocre in the looks department, or-" "You're not mediocre, I think you look amazing just the way you are!" Denki blurted out. Kyouka blinked, then grew red with embarrassment. "Oh... thanks, I guess." She said quietly. "Yeah, no problem," Denki replied in the same tone, "I just wanted you to value yourself more."

Awkward silence filled the train. Denki just realized that they were alone in the train. "S-so, um, how do you think you did in the entrance exams?" She asked, breaking the silence. Denki perked up, smiled, and replied, "Oh, I kicked ass, you should have seen me, I was so freaking amazing!! How'd you do?" Kyouka laughed a little at his boundless energy and love for showing off his achievements. "He never changes does he..." She smiled, "I thought I did well too, except for that one period of time where I-" She stopped herself. "I can't tell him that I thought of him for 15 minutes straight while I just stood there like an idiot, that's sooooo weird!!" Kyouka sat up straighter, "Ahem, I mean, I got caught by surprised but I bounced back just in time." The two kept talking back and forth on the train ride, detailing each and every kill they got in the exam.

"And then I whirled around and punched the robot straight in the face and it just fell to the ground all crumpled up. It felt amazing!!" Denki said excitedly, detailing his amazing kill on a 3 point robot. Kyouka laughed. By this time, it was dark and the hour train ride home was cut down to a 10 minute one. "I missed this kind of talk, y'know... when we used to hang out in parks after school ended and just talk about our days." Kyouka mused. "Yeah, it gets pretty lonely when you don't have a girl with anger issues hitting you whenever she felt like it." Denki replied. "I'll hit you right now if you don't shut up." Kyouka retorted, danger edged in her voice. Denki gulped, "Okay now, let's not be too hasty here." Kyouka laughed. She looked at Denki, who had closed his eyes deep in thought. "Now that I think about it, I've never seen Kaminari cry, just smile, laugh, get mad, frustrated, and even high sometimes but I've never seen him down on himself. Not since the funeral."

Denki sat in his seat, deep in thought. He thought about a few things, like if he was gonna make it into U.A. or what he was gonna eat for dinner, but mostly, he thought of his parents. His mother and father died as pro-heroes in the field, after a terrible disaster struck the province they were working in. A villain had caused an earthquake near the coast, which provoked a tsunami. The following damage was a nightmare, but in the chaos, Denki lost his parents. Denki lamented on his journey from his childhood home near Tokyo to living with his Aunt Shizu in Hosu City. He remembered the funeral, the black suits and dresses, the tears and sobs, and his own broken self. He didn't cry during the funeral, he cried after, when Aunt Shizu was taking him home in the car. On the news and on his way to Hosu, he saw many people who were like him, who lost everything because of one person. "And from that day I swore to myself that if there was a chance, no matter the cost, I would give it my all to protect people from that fate. No one should go through what we went through..." Denki gripped his pants in anger. "I'll give everyone the chance to be happy in their lives, no matter who they are!"

"Eastern Hosu City," blared the loudspeaker, "Please, mind the gap and cross safely. Thank you."

Kyouka and Denki walked off the train and onto the platform. "Hey Kami, are you feeling alright? You looked in pain for a little there." Kyouka questioned him. She had noticed his little motivation moment on the train. "Yeah, I'm all good. Let's go home now, I need to work on a few things before I turn in." Denki replied. As he walked away, Kyouka looked at him for a moment, then walked slightly behind him. She looked up at him. "I knew he was motivated, but not this motivated... I thought Kaminari was more care-free, it makes me a little left behind." Kyouka smiled with a small bit of sadness laced within. " I guess I finally noticed the real you, Denki."
