I looked at Ian with sad eyes with his arms wrapped around me low. My hands and forearms laying on his chest as we stood outside the back door of my work. The hat I usually wore for work laid on the bench just right of the door and behind me. He took it off as he wanted to fully look into my eyes while he could.
He'd come to my work on his way to the airport. I didn't realize I wanted to see him before he left too. After the wonderful day and night we spent together last night, I didn't think I'd be sad that he had to leave on a trip so soon. But here I was wishing to just be with him at his place for several days.
"I will be back before you know it." He reached into back pocket and pulled out a single key. "Just in case you need a place to go to get away from everything."
He put the key in my front pocket of my black carpenter pants while I frowned at him. "But that's your place."
To this he shook his head. "It didn't start to feel like home till you were there last night with me. Waking to you there was heaven and I would love if you would find it as a refuge from the world." He leaned down to kiss my lips. "It's one of the most safest places in the world for you to be besides right next to me."
My frown deepened. "I'm not moving in yet."
He sighed. "I know we need more time before we even think of that." I could feel that he wished that I was already moved in. That it was my home too the moment he carried me over the threshold.
Nodding, I smiled up at him. "But I promise if I feel like missing you too bad, I'll go to your place and wrap your sheets around me just to feel you near me."
"Good." One last sweet kiss, he pulled away from me with a sigh at the sound of a honk. "I have to get to the airport."
I nodded and leaned down to pick up my hat. Walking around the corner of the building to the waiting black SUV between the two buildings. His hand in mine with our fingers threaded together.
At the SUV, he turned to me again. "The tracker is going to meet you out later tonight so you two can discuss what you've noticed so far. After she leaves, you won't notice her around at all."
"She's that good, huh?"
He chuckled. "Trust me, she's one of the best. If someone is following you, she'll find them and find out why." Ian's expression turned serious. "Should you be at risk, she'll also be there to protect you for me."
I swallowed against the thought that someone wants to hurt me for any reason. "You think..."
He placed a finger over my lips shaking his head. "I'm just speaking so you're not blindsided."
"Okay." I blew out a deep breath. "You stay safe." I quickly wrapped my arms around his neck and he wrapped his arms around my waist. "Come back to me."
He squeezed me a little tighter. "Always."
We let each other go and he reluctantly climbed into the SUV. It drove away and I watched it till it was completely out of sight. With a sigh, I put my work hat back on and went inside.
Everyone had a time smiling and making comments about me having someone. I just ignored them for the most part and worked hard to get the last hour of work done. My heart already missing him.
Once I clocked out for the day, I walked out the door and over to my car. I stopped at one of the four islands in the parking lot that had a walkway cut through the middle of it. Leaning against my car was a very tall woman with light brown hair that was braided down one side of her head and over her right shoulder. She wore a pair of tight leather pants that just showed how much strength she had in her legs. The sleeveless red leather jacket was also tight and showed she didn't wear anything else underneath of it. Seeing her, she screamed strong and too dangerous to mess with. I had the feeling she was the tracker that Ian had contacted to watch over me while he was away.
