(KAI'S POV)
"Ugh, you're taking so long." I complained, leaning against the wall with arms crossed.
Y/n was sitting at my desk when she slammed the table and glared at me, "Research. Takes. Time." And she averted her attention back to the computer.
I rolled my eyes and grumbled, "Okay, chill." I was unfortunately partnered up with Y/n for a chemistry project. Ironic thing is we have the worst chemistry together. I mean, she hates me for being "shallow" just because I'm popular but I'm not fond of her myself. She's so annoyingly uptight. Honestly, nothing could get worst than this-
My phone rang and I picked it up, "Hello?"
"Hey, Kai!" I forgot her name but I could tell it was one of the cheerleaders from school. "You never called me back."
"Well, I'm busy doing a project right now..."
"I'm the one busy..." Y/n called out to me.
I glared at her, "Because you're hogging the computer."
"Who's that?" The cheerleader asked.
"My partner for the project." I stuck my tongue at Y/n and continued speaking, "Is there something important you wanted to say?"
"No, but there's this new cafe opening near school." The cheerleader continued to gab, "I was wondering if you want to check it out with me tomorrow..."
"I can't..." I cringed at my lie.
I could hear the disappointment in her voice, "Aww, how come?"
"Dude, can you stop talking to one of your girlfriends?" Y/n groaned at me, clearly annoyed.
"Excuse me for a minute-" I placed the phone so the girl wouldn't hear me, "Look, this girl keeps calling me every 5 minutes and it's driving me nuts. I'm trying my best to get her to stop talking to me, thank you very much."
Y/n sighed and then got up from the chair, "Okay, give me that."
"What-"
Before I could even fight her, she grabbed my phone and pressed speaker, "Stop talking to him."
"Who the heck is this?!" Answered The cheerleader.
"His girlfriend. Bye!" She ended the call and passed the phone to me, "She'll never call you again. You're welcome."
My eyes widened at her as I stuttered, "T-Thank you?"
I figured that maybe Y/n wasn't really that bad. In fact, as time passed, we ended up becoming good friends.
Five months later...
"Anyway, I'll see you at school tomorrow." She said as she walked out the door after we hung out today. "Bye, Kai." She waved at me and left my house."Bye, Y/n!" I closed the door and went up to my room.
That night, I tried so hard to sleep.. But I couldn't stop thinking about today. I couldn't stop thinking about... her.I sat up from my bed and grumbled, "Dang it. I have a crush."
(Y/N'S POV)
One month later...
3:47amI headed to the playground in the park in my neighborhood. Kai and I have been friends for six months now. But lately, he's been having insomnia all of a sudden. He texted me recently that there's a reason behind it. And he wanted to explain it to me right now. I couldn't believe myself but I went to meet him anyway.
I finally reached the playground and I saw Kai sitting on one of the swings. I sat with him, hands in my jacket's pockets. "Hey."
"Hey..." His usual cocky and confident self has been replaced with a shy, nervous boy. One hand behind his back.
"Who are you and what happened to Kai?" I teased him and he exhaled a soft laugh.
"Y/n, we've known each other for a year. Hated each other for the most part. And today, we're friends."
I was a little confused with why he brought that up but I agreed. "But what does this have to do with your insomnia?"
Kai stood up and revealed what he was hiding behind him.
A red rose."What's going on?" I tried to chuckle casually but my heart was racing. Though I couldn't assume if it was going in the direction I hoped it was heading to.
"Y/n... I can't sleep at night. The thought of myself not being able to call you mine keeps me up." Despite such bold words, his legs were shaking. Yet he refused to break eye contact with me. "Will you go out with me?"
"Are- Are you serious?" I pinched myself to check if it was a dream. It's not. "Kai Kamal Huening, if you're messing with me, I'll seriously punch you in the face. I'm not kidding."
"I'm not kidding either!" He held my hand to pull me up and out of the swing so I could be close to him, "Y/n, you're the greatest girl I've ever met. I don't believe there's anyone I'd rather be with than you."
His lips were really close to mine, "I really like you, Y/n." but he remained still. As my heart started to pound harder, Kai barely moved. He was insanely close to me. The rose in his hand was shaking, he was clearly nervous"Ugh, you're taking so long." I pulled him in for a peck in the lips. He grinned like an idiot and went in for another, longer kiss while cupping my face and my arms around his neck.
