Me and Stokeley sat on the couch while my mother cooked in the kitchen.
I was so nervous about this dinner I didn't even want to talk to Stokeley right now.
"You good?" He asked and I nodded at him.
"I'm just nervous" I told him and he nodded.
"I don't know what you are nervous for in the one who gotta impress her" he chuckled and I nodded.
"But if you don't impress her I'll still like you and she ain't so I won't be able to see you" I explained and he nodded.
"Well it's a good thing you don't have to try to impress me, just he yourself" I heard my mom making me sigh and look up.
We went to the table that our plates were sitting on and all set close together.
"I know the dinner just started but I already have a question" she spoke making my heart throb.
"Why you do you have tattoos on your face?" She asked him making me giggle.
He shrugged at her and smiled "I like them , they help define who I am" he told her and she nodded.
"And your parents let you stay under their roof with your face like this?" She asked him as she ate and he shook his head again.
"My parents are Jamaican so they are very strict so when I get these tattoos they wasn't messing with me and kicked me out" he told her and she nodded at him.
"I'm sorry to hear that. So where are you staying now?" She asked him and he told her.
She stopped talking for a little while and let out a couple huffs so I already knew what she was about to ask Stokeley. It was a question that had always made me curious but I always hold it off.
"How do you make money?" She asked and I was listening but I was holding my head down like I wasn't.
It was quiet before Stokeley answered "I'm a rapper" he told her and she nodded.
"Are you a good one?" She asked and he shrugged.
"I'm still working my way up there" he told her and she nodded.
"Well at least you are doing something."
Their conversation continued and I just sat there, my nervousness eventually completely dying down because their conversation seemed to me flowing.
After dinner I took the plates in the kitchen and started to wash them.
Stokeley came behind me and hugged my waist "Did I do good?" He whispered and my ear and I nodded and smiled.
"You did amazing."
