22【A LITTLE CONFESSION】

[Another Person That Isn't Existing In The World's POV]

Tears streamed down Jennie's face as if they were raindrops on her car's windowshield. She couldn't see where she was going, driving blindly on the highway and just barely slowing down as the roads merged into the main streets.

Her mind was in knots and she couldn't shake the uncomfortable feeling growing in the pit of her stomach. Jennie thought she'd be sick right there in the car.

Jichu doesn't love me anymore. She thought. Her fingers gripped the steering wheel harder. I've been replaced. She doesn't even need me.

Jennie couldn't live with that. She and Jisoo not being together in the end didn't sit right in her mind, she couldn't find a place for it in existence. It didn't make sense. Life didn't make sense if Jisoo wasn't in it for her.

Jennie...

Jennie was ready to die without her.

"I can't go on..." Jennie whispered to nothing but the packed, earless streets, and she slowed her car as she approached a red light at an intersection. She dreaded the thought of returning to her mom and brother's house instead of home with Jisoo. It's been so long; she just wanted all the bad things to be over and everything to be normal again.

He wanted her Chu.

Just as her car neared the white line directly before the streetlights, Jennie's cellphone rang. The caller ID read that Lisa, her best friend, was calling him. Lisa was the only one who ever called him these days. The sad thought sent Jennie reaching for her phone in the cupholder by her feet, though she was half-blinded by burning tears and the distraction made her accidentally push her phone slightly out of reach.

Donghae carefully lunged for her fallen phone, left hand still on the steering wheel. With a calming breath, she captured her phone in her hand and slid her finger over the glass screen, answering before her best friend hung up.

Righting himself in the driver's seat, Jennie spoke a brief, "Hello?" before she realized she'd never been pressing firmly on the breaks. Her car had drifted far into the street and others were speeding right towards her.

She didn't have enough time to react.

"Hey, Jenn--"

Sounds of car metal smashing against metal filled Lisa's ear so violently her voice caught in her throat and her eyes grew wide in terror. She heard what she assumed was the car flipping once, twice, and then skidding definitively against the asphalt for too many seconds to bear. Against his will, Lisa's hands started shaking tremendously.

"J-Jen? Jen!" Despite knowing she probably wouldn't get an answer, Lisa desperately wanted, needed, an answer. "Jennie!" She screamed, eyes frantically searching for life in a scene she could only imagine. Please, tell me I heard something wrong... She prayed. "Jen, answer me!"

From where she lay curled up on the couch beside his best friend, Jisoo's head snapped up at the intensity in Lisa's voice. Something was wrong, and Jisoo knew Lisa had said she would call Jennie just moments ago, furious at how Jisoo had just shown up at their house, in tears yet again. But now, something was wrong with Jennie.

"Lisa! What's wrong? What happened?" She cried, heart already pounding in her chest. She scrambled to her feet just as Chaeng did the same, hurrying to place comforting hands on her girlfriend's shoulders. "Tell me!"

Jisoo demanded when Lisa remained silent.

The addressed replied with a trembling mouth, her words hardly audible and her eyes slowly watering with fresh tears, "J-Jen... just got into a car accident."
