~time skip: the next morning~

Rigby's eyes fluttered open as he pushed himself up, palms pressed to the material on his mini-trampoline. The sun was shining through the window, informing him that it was certainly morning.

He glanced over at Mordecai's bed but, the bed was vacant. Rigby raised an eyebrow before finally standing, making his way towards the door.

Reaching out for the doorknob, he began to think about the day ahead of him. What was going to happen? He hoped Mordecai would forget that he promised he would hang out. Rigby didn't want to mess things up more than they already were.

Rigby exited the room and strutted down the staircase, entering the kitchen. His stomach rumbled. Damn, he had been so occupied in his thoughts and actions over the previous day that he forgot to eat!

Mordecai was sitting down at the table, elbow digging into the wood to support his head which was resting on his hand. Rigby stopped in the doorway, anxiety rushing over him.

"H-hey, " He muttered, continuing to stand still. Mordecai's gaze left the floor and settled on Rigby, locking eyes with one another.

"Hey, " He responded. Rigby walked forward, grabbing a cereal bowl out of the cupboard, "you missed morning meeting, "

"Shit, " Rigby cursed under his breath. He slept in too long.

"We just have a shift at the snack bar today, nothing major, "

Rigby nodded in agreement, placing the bowl down on the wooden table. He glared at the bowl, starting to get lost in thought.

Mordecai noticed but didn't question it. He was just as scared as Rigby that they'd fight once again.

After eating breakfast, they went to go get ready for the day.

They had left the house and headed for the snack bar. Thank God, it was only a few hours they had to work. Most of the work was covered for that day due to Muscle Man and High Five Ghost completing tasks to earn extra money.

Mordecai slipped the keys out of his pocket and held the doorknob as he unlocked the door. Rigby waited silently behind him, chewing the skin around his nails.

They waltzed into the snack bar and Rigby inhaled, breathing in the familiar scent.

Mordecai smiled when he noticed the small grin on Rigby's face. Content; that's what he was.

"I have a love-hate relationship with this job, " Mordecai said, resting his elbows on the counter. Rigby wasn't ready to talk yet so he just nodded.

The time seemed to go by so slowly. Just like earlier, Rigby kept hoping that Mordecai would forget about what he had promised.

But, of course, Mordecai didn't forget, "so- where do you want to go?"

"What?" Rigby knew what he meant.

"We were going to do something today, " Mordecai explained, voice shaky, "where do you want to go?"

Rigby shrugged, "I don't care, "

"That's unlike you.." Mordecai smiled. Rigby didn't return the gesture, though.

"Seriously, I don't care, "

Mordecai thought for a second, "well- there's this new restaurant, Margaret told me about it, "

Rigby furrowed his eyebrows, a growl wanted to escape his throat at the sound of her name. The name stuck him like a pin.
