A few weeks later they were supposed to hang out with Katie and Kim but Theo was late, surprising no one. Isaac and Phoebe had their date night that they still managed to do at least on every weekend if not more and Marco had some family business at home that he couldn't escape.
"Have you talked about college with Theo?" Kim asked from Quentin who froze in the kitchen.
"Not really," he said, trying to sound as if everything was fine even though it wasn't. Unfortunately, he had never learned to do that well and everyone always saw right through him.
"What does that mean? Have you or have you not?" Katie frowned while eating the lasagne Quentin's mother made earlier today.
"We haven't talked yet but we will," Quentin answered after a bit hesitation, trying to find ways to change the subject.
He was already freaking out because of all the ways college could destroy his relationships with his friends who would live far away and also his boyfriend that he finally had after being alone so long.
Long-distance relationships hardly worked and they had been together less than three months. Even Kim broke up with her first girlfriend after they went to different colleges after two years of dating.
The last thing he wanted to hear was her to tell him that his fears were 100% correct. So no, he didn't want to have this conversation right now.
"Alright, we don't have to talk about it but you have to do it with Theo. The sooner you do it, the better it is for both of you," Kim explained, sounding sympathetic.
Quentin had an urge to ask if she had that conversation with Hannah but decided not to bring any bad memories of her ex-girlfriend.
Suddenly the doorbell rang and Quentin went to open it while thinking what Kim said. After kissing Theo and saying hello, in that order, he let him get in and went back to the kitchen to tell his friend not to say a word to Theo about what they just talked about. He would do it later.
Two hours Quentin made the mistake and left the room only for a while to help his parents downstairs. When he went back, he heard his name and couldn't help but listen from outside the door. It might be wrong but talking about him when he wasn't in the room wasn't very nice either.
"I think it's great that you are together. After Isaac, he has been so lonely even though he won't say it out loud." Oh no. No no no. This wasn't happening. Not now when things were so good with Theo.
"After Isaac?" he repeated Kim's words and even though he didn't say more, it was clear that he wanted to hear more. There was a coldness in his voice that made Quentin almost run away. He had seen Theo angry many times but never had he made him react this way. Never had he been scared of him before.
"Oops, I shouldn't have said that," Kim mumbled awkwardly. No shit, Quentin thought angrily. What right do you have to tell my secrets to anyone?
"What happened with Isaac?" Now it was Katie who spoke, sounding really curious and confused.
Of course she did, only Kim knew that he had had feelings for Isaac and it wasn't even because he told her. She was smart enough and noticed it herself before coming to ask if Quentin really had a crush on him.
"Well -" Kim started but Quentin interrupted her by walking in the room. He didn't know if she was planning to say more, hopefully not, but Isaac's name was already out there and he knew that Theo had questions.
