Theo knew that he screwed up the second those words left his mouth. Like he had explained to Quentin while trying to stop him from leaving, he had panicked after his mother asked what his girlfriend's name was.
That's how Quentin became Quinn.
His boyfriend wouldn't talk to him at school nor did he answer any of his calls or texts. That didn't surprise him but it still hurt. Quentin said that they would talk later and Theo knew that he needed to leave him alone for a while which was a lot harder than he thought.
The worst part was that Theo couldn't even blame him for it. He would probably do the same if Quentin lied about having a girlfriend.
Still, he continued the third day without telling his mother the truth. She had even asked him to introduce his girlfriend to her and he always had some excuse to leave the room without answering.
"You look like shit," Isaac said after yet another math class where he had to sit beside the boy he adored without talking to him. "You're still not telling us why Queenie is so angry? I had just gotten used to seeing you two together, don't tell me it was all for nothing! Also, I saw you smoking again. I thought you quit?"
Theo only rolled his eyes at his cousin and tried to find Quentin from the crowd of hundreds of students. He knew that he would have English next and was determined to have at least one conversation. He just needed a chance to apologize for making him cry.
"I know where he is," Katie said. Theo almost yelled at her for not telling him sooner since it had been quite clear that he had tried to talk to his boyfriend for days with no success. But since he didn't want to give her any reason not to tell, he decided to stay friendly.
"And where is that?" She watched him a few seconds before shaking her head.
"I can't say. Or I can but I don't want to. He's hiding for a reason which means that you did something wrong. That doesn't surprise me at all, I always kind of waited for you to screw up. I mean, clearly it would be you ruining the relationship and not him."
What the hell? They might not be as close as he was with Quentin and Isaac but Theo couldn't remember a single thing that would make her think so badly of him. Hell, they had barely talked alone since there were always people around them.
"Can you not be so loud?" Theo said, looking around to make sure that no one heard what she said.
"Oh right because you're so ashamed of him. That's probably why he wants to break up, I mean I would hate to be on his shoes," she just continued talking about things that weren't any of her concerns. And what was all that talk about Quentin wanting to break up? Did he say something to her?
"That's enough! We don't know what happened but Queenie hadn't said anything about ending things with Theo. Let them talk alone, it's none of our business," Isaac joined in the conversation before he could say anything. It was nice to know that at least he had his cousin to defend him while some people were so against him.
Then he realized that Katie was just being a good friend and probably defended Quentin in her own way. She didn't have a right to say any of those things but there might be some truth in her words. He was too scared to know the answer but what if Quentin was getting tired of him and all the waiting?
"May I have a word with you all?" Oh no. As if things weren't bad already, Bree Adams would definitely only make them worse.
"Sure," he could only say and others nodded. Then they started to follow her to her classroom where he tried not to look at her while she didn't seem to have a problem with staring.
"Is there something wrong, Mrs. Adams?" he asked. She had told him to call her by her first name but he doubted it was acceptable now for two reasons: one, they were at school. Two, she would soon probably tell him not to meet Quentin ever again. Damn, he had just thought he got on her and Chris' good side.
